No exaggerated spoilers, no extreme power numbers. Just that made it interesting. The first Twingo RS appeared in 2008, based on the second generation Twingo. With its 1.6-liter atmospheric four-cylinder, it delivered 98 kW (133 hp). Not spectacular on paper, but light, direct and razor-sharp. We would even dare to call this Twingo RS a blissful hot rod.      <\/p>\n<p>Renault Sport chose a chassis that was mostly about balance. A short wheelbase, a relatively low weight and a solid chassis, that&#8217;s about it. In Cup trim, things got even more serious, with a lowered suspension, stiffer springs and thicker stabilizers. Steering and throttle response took center stage. The Twingo RS was not a fast car in a straight line, but it was a machine that made merry on corners.    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sportsmanship without engine noise<\/h2>\n<p>Fast forward to now. Electric driving has changed the playing field. Noise and revs have faded into the background. With extra torque, precision and the right suspension tuning, Renault could develop an electric Twingo RS without too much trouble.   <\/p>\n<p>The latest Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric features a 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor and a 27.5 kWh battery, good for a range of up to 263 km according to the WLTP standard. In standard form, it is built for the city, with an empty weight around 1,200 kilograms, an extremely small turning radius and an electric motor placed at the rear. The latter is interesting for extra playful handling.  <\/p>\n<p>For an RS version, Renault Sport &#8211; or nowadays Alpine &#8211; could tighten up that base. Consider a more powerful electric motor of around 100 to 120 kW (136 to 163 hp). Not unrealistic figures; comparable compact EVs show that this is technically feasible without huge battery packs. Torque would be readily available and possibly come out to around 220 to 250 Nm. In a compact car with a short wheelbase, that means serious punch when accelerating out of corners.    <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1440\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/renault-twingo-e-tech-electric-rs-foto.jpg\" alt=\"Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric RS - Rendering AutoRAI.nl (Bart Oostvogels)\" class=\"wp-image-214924\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric RS &#8211; Rendering AutoRAI.nl (Bart Oostvogels)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Undercarriage first, power second<\/h2>\n<p>As with the original Twingo RS, the chassis would be leading. An electric Twingo RS does not have to be a sprint champion. It&#8217;s all about control. A revised chassis with stiffer suspension, modified dampers and a lower ride height would be essential. Steering should feel more direct than in the standard E-Tech, with a sharper steering rack and more feedback. Tire choice and brakes also play a big role. Larger brake discs and sportier rubber complete the picture without making the car unnecessarily heavy.      <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Light, compact and honest<\/h2>\n<p>One of the biggest challenges is in weight. Electric cars are heavier, period. But the Twingo E-Tech in particular shows that it can also be compact. By sticking to a relatively small battery, the weight remains within limits. Range is an afterthought; this is not a car for long highway trips, but for short drives and winding back roads. Exactly as the original Twingo RS was once intended. With a range of around 200 kilometers in sporty driving, no one would really be surprised. Fast charging need not be a priority.       <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An RS for a new era<\/h2>\n<p>An electric Renault Twingo RS should not be a nostalgic gimmick. It would be a logical development of Renault&#8217;s sporty philosophy: compact, accessible and focused on driving pleasure rather than numbers. Just as the Clio RS once showed that you don&#8217;t need extreme power to impress.  <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Renault wouldn&#8217;t call it an RS these days, but an Alpine Twingo or something similar. Still, the thought remains appealing: a small, electric hatchback with a sharp chassis and a character of its own. At a time when cars are getting bigger and heavier, just such a compact electric RS would be a breath of fresh air. So the question is not whether it can be done. The technology is already there.
