It is a new mobility concept that merges car, software, entertainment and artificial intelligence. SHM itself calls it &#8220;Mobility as a Creative Entertainment Space. The car is no longer just a means of transportation, but a digital living space on wheels.   <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From vision to product<\/h2>\n<p>Sony Honda Mobility presented not only Afeela 1 in early January 2026, but also an immediate preview. In fact, next to the production model stood Afeela Prototype 2026, a larger and more flexible interpretation of the same idea. That car should already appear as a production model around 2028 with the name Afeela 2. This model builds on the technical and digital foundation of Afeela 1, but emphasizes more space, flexibility and accessibility. Think a more spacious interior, a different seating position and broader usability for different audiences. SHM explicitly sees Afeela 2 as a car that should offer &#8220;joy and value&#8221; to a wider audience, without compromising on software, AI and entertainment. A production model based on this second Afeela is scheduled for introduction in the United States around 2028, with which the brand intends to expand its portfolio step by step.      <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/AFEELA-Prototype-2026_4-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"AFEELA 2\" class=\"wp-image-215162\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Afeela 2<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First concrete step<\/h2>\n<p>The Afeela 1 thus represents the first concrete step. The model was available for reservation in California as early as January 2025 and attracted more than 100,000 visitors to Afeela Studios in its first year. In the fall of 2025, the first test series ran off the line at Honda&#8217;s plant in East Liberty, Ohio.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/SHM_Press_Conference_Yasuhide-Mizuno_1-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-215172\"><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entertainment on four wheels<\/h2>\n<p>SHM&#8217;s approach is clear: the car should understand who you are, what you want and how you feel. This is done through a combination of sensors, AI and cloud software. The Afeela 1 is equipped with 40 sensors, powerful computing hardware and a fully digital interior.  <\/p>\n<p>At the center is the Afeela Personal Agent. This is an interactive AI assistant, developed with Microsoft Azure OpenAI, that conducts natural conversations, remembers preferences and actively thinks along. Not only about navigation, but also about music, entertainment and even interior ambience.  <\/p>\n<p>Up front, a panoramic screen stretches the full width of the dashboard. Sony&#8217;s expertise in image and sound is evident here, as with the spatial sound system and active noise cancellation. On the outside, the Media Bar stands out: an external display with which the car communicates with the outside world. Think of notifications for other road users or status information during autonomous driving.   <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Driving assistance systems with future vision<\/h2>\n<p>Afeela 1 features Level 2+ driving assistance at launch, under the name Afeela Intelligent Drive. That means the car is capable of supporting from point of departure to destination, including steering, acceleration and braking under the driver&#8217;s supervision. <\/p>\n<p>SHM, however, looks beyond that. The software architecture is set up as an end-to-end AI model with Vision-Language Models (VLM). The goal is to achieve Level 4-like functionality in the future, where driving is increasingly relegated to the background and occupants can use time differently. The technical basis for this comes from Qualcomm Snapdragon Digital Chassis, which acts as the brain of the car, with computing power of up to 800 TOPS.   <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/AFEELA-1_3-colors-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"AFEELA 1 in all colors\" class=\"wp-image-215156\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Afeela 1 in all available colors<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating together: from apps to mobility services<\/h2>\n<p>A unique feature is the Afeela Co-Creation Program. Developers and creators get access to APIs and development environments to build apps, themes and entertainment for the interior. In this regard, Android forms the basis for the infotainment system.  <\/p>\n<p>In addition, SHM is working on an on-chain mobility platform based on token technology. Under the &#8220;X-to-Earn&#8221; principle, users, developers and partners can contribute to mobility services and receive value in return. An experimental approach, but typical Sony.  <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Propulsion and driving experience<\/h2>\n<p>Under the skin, the Afeela 1 remains surprisingly classic. The car sits on its own platform with twin electric motors and all-wheel drive. The focus is not on extreme performance, but on balance, quietness and precision. The suspension is conventional but high-quality, with double wishbones in the front and multi-link in the rear.
