Drivetrain evaluation<\/h2>\n

Displayed alongside presentations from development partners Yamaha Motor and XING Mobility, the prototype will be used for testing and evaluation purposes as the brand works toward large-scale production. Following assembly of the prototype at the TOKYO R&D facility in Japan, the development vehicle has begun both initial evaluation of the powertrain, including Yamaha Motor’s e-axle, and endurance testing of the chassis. <\/p>\n

Dielectric fluid<\/h2>\n

This prototype of the Caterham Project V also enables further testing of the CTP battery system. In this process, the battery cells are immersed in a dielectric fluid, which ensures optimal cooling through rapid and even heat dissipation. A dielectric fluid is a liquid that does not conduct electricity, but rather insulates it. As a result, you can safely immerse electrical components in it without causing a short circuit. This approach provides very high thermal stability, with benefits in terms of energy density, safety and performance. <\/p>\n

Project V also goes to USA<\/h2>\n

In addition, the original Caterham Project V EV sports coupe concept car, in collaboration with XING Mobility, will make its U.S. debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas on Jan. 6, 2026.<\/p>\n

New CEO of Caterham Cars<\/h2>\n

Kazuho Takahashi, the new CEO of Caterham Cars<\/a>, said, “This is an important milestone in the development of Project V, with our prototype making its public debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon. This next step allows us to begin an extensive testing program with our technical partners. Our goal remains unchanged: to realize our vision of an all-electric sports car that embodies Caterham’s unmistakable DNA.”<\/p>\n

Built outside the UK<\/h2>\n

The 100% electric Caterham Project V will be a car built outside the United Kingdom. Where that will happen, Caterham Cars cannot yet confirm. That depends on economic conditions and the right suppliers, among other things. Project V will be built by an outside contract manufacturer. There are several parties in the world that do that. VDL in the Netherlands is an example, but Caterham has not yet made a choice. The brand first focuses on producing prototypes. After that, market introduction will follow. <\/p>\n

Coming fits after 2026<\/h2>\n

The interest in the Project V, according to Caterham Cars, comes mainly from a new target group, former CEO Bob Laishley told me in an earlier interview<\/a>. Bob: “Only 20% of those interested are existing Caterham owners. We do often read on social media, ‘Nice car, but I want a gasoline engine.’ But internally we never seriously considered that. After all, we don’t expect to be able to find a suitable powertrain in the future, and we can’t afford in-house engine development. Just find a powertrain with a manual transmission. Project V has to last a long time to recoup the investment, and as the world moves toward electric, a gasoline variant makes little sense. The car will hit the market later than 2026. For now, we are happy with our partners like Yamaha for the powertrain and XING Mobility for the batteries.” <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
