A 1978 Subaru rewrites all the rules<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Starring in this Gymkhana is a heavily modified 1978 Subaru BRAT, renamed “Brataroo 9500 Turbo. Think of it as an engineering project that kills the laws of physics with a 2.0-liter turbo boxer under the hood with some 492 kW (670 hp). <\/p>\n

The very first Gymkhana: the Subaru Impreza WRX STI<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For those who know the history: the real origins of Gymkhana are not with the later Fiesta videos, but with Ken Block’s first Gymkhana Practice video<\/a> from 2008, shot with a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. <\/p>\n

That was the moment the world first saw how Ken Block brought together the concept of precision driving, controlled chaos and creative vehicle control in one cinematic format. The blue Impreza, sharp slides, quick transitions and camera work were the blueprint for everything that would follow next – like the video below. <\/p>\n

The famous Fiesta period: Gymkhana becomes global culture<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Although the Impreza was the beginning, Gymkhana didn’t really break through worldwide until Ken Block switched to the Ford Fiesta – in the famous Monster Energy livery. This period produced the videos that millions of people still remember – at least, we do. The compact Fiesta, tight locations, plumes of smoke and extreme maneuverability made the videos iconic and a worldwide phenomenon. <\/p>\n

Australia as a playground<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The first Gymkhana videos kicked off an ongoing video series full of absurd maneuvers that it’s best not to try inside and outside built-up areas – all the more fun to watch them. <\/p>\n

Aussie Shred exudes the same spirit, but in a modern twist. The scale is larger, the production more cinematic, the stunts even more elaborate.
