Externally, the new Omoda 5 has its own modern design language called “Light of Movement. The front is shaped like a distinctive ‘X’ and exudes the car’s sporty, confident character. The narrow LED headlights with their distinctive horizontal daytime running lights optically accentuate the car’s width. The electrically operated tailgate of the EV version conceals a luggage compartment of 442 liters, which can be expanded to 1,149 liters (SHS-H: 372 – 1,079 liters) with the rear seats folded down as required. <\/p>\n
The interior<\/h2>\n
In the interior we detect standard sport seats that in the case of the Premium version are equipped with six-way electric adjustment for the driver and front passenger including seat heating and ventilation. The seats are upholstered in synthetic leather. The dual-zone climate control system features a PM2.5 filter to keep ultrafine particles out of the cabin. To balance virtual and physical controls, a row of buttons for frequently used functions, such as climate control, is integrated into the center console. The infotainment system runs on a powerful Qualcomm 8155 “Snapdragon” chip. The powerful 7 nm processor responds quickly to user input and supports 4G connectivity including a Wi-Fi hotspot for over-the-air software updates, among other things, for continuous improvements and additional features. <\/p>\n In front of the driver is a 12.3-inch HD instrument panel that displays essential driving information. A second curved 12.3-inch touchscreen faces the driver and offers quick operation of the infotainment system. A helpful aid is natural voice control using a virtual assistant. The latter is connected so its capabilities evolve with the technology, increasing usability and enjoyment. A Sony surround sound audio system is standard. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, for seamless smartphone integration, while the 50W wireless charger in the center console including an integrated cooling element always ensures reliable and fast charging performance. <\/p>\n In the EV version, the enhanced EV navigation system, which uses Here’s industry-leading maps, makes it easy to use public charging stations. The system shows chargers along the route, which network they belong to, charging costs and whether they are available or in use. <\/p>\n With the introduction of the Omoda 5, Omoda & Jaecoo offers customers a choice of two powertrain options right from launch: an all-electric version and the SHS-H hybrid variant, which relies on Omoda & Jaecoo’s in-house developed hybrid technology.<\/p>\n First, a quick look at the electric variant. With a 61 kWh Lithium-Iron Phosphate battery pack and a single motor on the front axle that develops 155 kW (210 hp) and 288 Nm of torque, the Omoda 5 EV accelerates from 0 to 100 km\/h in 7.2 seconds and has a range of up to 402 kilometers (WLTP). <\/p>\n At the fast charger, the battery pack of the Omoda 5 EV is charged from 30 to 80% in just 28 minutes at a rate of 130 kW, while the 11 kW on-board charger enables fast and easy home charging. There, the battery pack can be charged from 0-100% in 6 hours and 45 minutes. The battery can also power external appliances, such as kettles or refrigerators, by using the vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. <\/p>\n While the car is plugged in, the preconditioning function automatically heats or cools the battery pack to reach the ideal operating temperature. By using power from the grid for this purpose instead of drawing power from the battery pack itself, the range is increased. On the road, regenerative braking recharges the battery pack when the driver releases the gas pedal. During this process, the car also brakes, reducing the need to use the regular brakes, reducing wear and tear and reducing particulate matter. Drivers can choose three different settings – low, medium and high – for energy recuperation, with the high mode enabling “one-pedal-driving. During braking, the Omoda 5 EV can recover up to 80 kW of energy. <\/p>\n In addition to the all-electric variant, there is the Omoda 5 SHS-H. The hybrid, in other words. This Omoda 5 SHS-H cannot be connected to a charging station, but charges itself while driving using brake energy and the fuel engine. The Omoda 5 SHS-H is powered by a fifth-generation 1.5 TGDI hybrid engine rated at 105 kW (143 hp). The 150 kW electric motor is integrated into the continuously variable DHT transmission. In addition, the Omoda 5 SHS-H features a 1.83 kWh battery. The version notes a combined fuel consumption of 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers and a combined driving range of over 1,000 kilometers. <\/p>\n At low speeds, the Omoda 5 SHS-H is powered exclusively by electric power. When more power is required or the amount of energy available in the battery pack is limited, the fuel engine jumps in as a range extender for the electric motor and battery pack. For truly sporty performance – including a sprint from 0 to 100 km\/h in 7.9 seconds – the power of the fuel and electric engines is harnessed simultaneously. <\/p>\n The Omoda 5 was developed in cooperation with the European R&D center in Frankfurt. The front suspension consists of MacPherson struts and coil springs, with a multi-link suspension and coil springs at the rear. An optimized combination of high- and ultra-high-strength steels has been used to form the passenger compartment safety cell, while the front crumple zone has been extended with six energy-absorbing crash structures. The high levels of protection provided by the body structure are reinforced by 11 airbags, including a center airbag to reduce the impact of a collision between the driver and front passenger. The car achieved the maximum Euro NCAP safety score of five stars. <\/p>\n The Omoda 5 can be ordered in the Netherlands immediately as a fully electric EV and as a SHS-H hybrid. The Omoda 5 SHS-H Comfort comes from 28,990 euros (Premium: from 31,990 euros). Prices for the Omoda 5 EV, which comes exclusively as a Premium luxury, start as low as 29,990 euros. This makes this all-electric version particularly competitively priced. As we had said: this is a C-segment SUV at the price of a B-segment car. <\/p>\n The new Omoda 5 comes with a seven-year (or 150,000 km) warranty. The battery pack of both the Omoda 5 EV and the Omoda 5 SHS-H comes with an eight-year (or 160,000 km) warranty period. Both powertrain versions can be admired this year in the Netherlands at the network of specialized Omoda & Jaecoo dealerships. This nationwide network already consists of some 20 branches and is likely to be further expanded with new partners in 2025.
