Hands-free driving becomes normal (well … almost so)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

BlueCruise is Ford’s semi-autonomous driving assistant that allows you to take your hands off the wheel while driving in special “Blue Zones. This is not science fiction, but can be used on European highways where the system has enough information to stay tightly in the lane itself and follow other cars. Until now it has been reserved for the Mustang Mach-E<\/a>, but Ford is expanding the system in the spring of 2026 to cars that many more people drive: the Puma<\/a>, the electric Puma Gen-E<\/a>, the Kuga<\/a> and the Ranger PHEV<\/a>, if equipped with the Driver Assistance Pack. <\/p>\n

How does it work in practice?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

BlueCruise is a clever summation of cameras, radars and software that continuously scan the road surface, lane markings and other road users. The system builds on adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance, but goes just a step further. When the car is sure it has all the information it needs, the BlueCruise icon appears and you can take your hands off the wheel. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a camera on the dashboard watches to make sure you stay alert – even if you have sunglasses on. Still, it’s relaxed driving. You watch the road; the car takes care of the rest. As soon as your attention wanders, loses it or looks to the side for too long, the system starts sending notifications and intervenes further. <\/p>\n

From Stockholm to Rome (almost) without being at the wheel<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ford has now designated 135,000 kilometers of European highways as Blue Zones, including highways in the Netherlands. In theory, you can take a long drive with BlueCruise handling most of the highway mileage. For example, it is written that it is possible to drive from Stockholm to Rome and spend nearly 25 hours hands-free driving through six contiguous countries. Talk about cross-border behavior… <\/p>\n

Why do you want to have BlueCruise? <\/strong><\/h2>\n

During long highway drives, BlueCruise offers that extra bit of relaxation. The car maintains its own speed, follows traffic and stays neatly between the lines. You don’t have to keep your arms tight on the steering wheel, which saves stiffness and fatigue. Especially for business drivers, commuters or vacationers who regularly drive a lot of miles, this can be a pleasant addition. <\/p>\n

Of course, there is still room to take control. Remember: BlueCruise makes driving more relaxing, but it does not replace the driver’s attention.
