Although the name immediately brings to mind the familiar hybrid C-HR, this version is a completely new interpretation. The plus in the name does not stand for a small update, but for a giant leap forward. This is because the Toyota C-HR+ is one hundred percent electric. With it, Toyota is taking an important step toward an emission-free future. With this model, the brand aims to gain a solid position in the popular compact SUV segment, where competitors such as the Kia EV3 and the Skoda Elroq now dominate.

Smart choice, but WHAT does the + stand for? TOYOTA C-HR+ is different than you think – REVIEW – AutoRAI TV

Different character

Looking at the design, one immediately sees that the Toyota C-HR+ has a completely different character from the “regular” C-HR. The sharp lines, sloping roof and broad shoulders give the car a sporty appearance. Yet it remains recognizable as a C-HR because of its distinctive, coupe-like silhouette. Underneath the bodywork is the e-TNGA platform developed specifically for electric drive, which is also used for the Toyota bZ4X. This platform offers a low center of gravity and high body stiffness, which not only enhances efficiency but also ensures pleasant dynamic handling.

Drive, performance and charging speed

The Toyota C-HR+ comes with two battery variants. The version with the 57.7 kWh battery delivers 123 kW, or 167 hp, and has a range of 456 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. Those who want to drive further without charging in between can opt for the version with the larger 77 kWh battery. That version boasts 165 kW, equivalent to 224 hp, and achieves an impressive 609 kilometers on a single battery charge, obviously according to the WLTP test standard.

For those who want more power and all-wheel drive, there is the Toyota C-HR+ Executive AWD. This version features two electric motors with a combined output of 242 kW (343 hp). This allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, making it surprisingly smooth for an SUV in this segment. The range is 546 kilometers, a value that fits well with the car’s performance.

Charging is remarkably fast in the Toyota C-HR+. Via a DC fast charger, the battery can be charged up to 150 kW, making 10 to 80 percent capacity achievable within half an hour. The car is also efficient at home or at a public charging station: the built-in AC charger supports 22 kW, which is significantly more than the usual 11 kW of most competitors. Thanks to battery preconditioning, the battery is preheated to temperature, so that charging speed is maintained even in cold conditions.

Handling and comfort

Toyota has long been known for its attention to comfort and reliability, and the Toyota C-HR+ is no different. The steering is light but precise, making the car feel intuitive. The suspension is superbly balanced: comfortable without being floaty and firm without being stiff. The bodywork is 30 percent stiffer than that of the previous generation C-HR, contributing to a solid feel on the road.

The all-wheel-drive Toyota C-HR+ Executive AWD offers more grip and stability, but the front-wheel-drive variants are also powerful enough for daily use and long highway drives. The silence in the interior is striking. The use of laminated windows and an extra-insulated floor keeps noise levels low, even at higher speeds.

A heat pump is standard equipment in the Toyota C-HR+, allowing efficient heating of the cabin without compromising range. Seat heating and a heated steering wheel complete the comfort.

Interior and ease of use of Toyota C-HR+

Inside the Toyota C-HR+, it is immediately clear that Toyota sticks to logic and ease of use. The interior is clearly laid out, with physical buttons for the most important functions. That is pleasant, especially in a time when many manufacturers hide all controls behind touch screens.

At the center of the dashboard is a modern 14-inch touchscreen that is responsive and offers wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Behind the steering wheel is a 7-inch digital instrument panel that is clear, although it is a little further away from the driver than is ideal. The materials used feel solid, with upholstery made in part from recycled PET material.

The atmosphere in the interior of the Toyota C-HR+ is pleasant and contemporary. Thanks to ambient lighting in 64 colors and an optional panoramic roof, the cabin feels spacious and light. In the back, legroom is adequate, although the high floor makes you sit with your knees slightly raised – a well-known drawback of electric cars where the battery is placed under the floor. Headroom is adequate for people up to about 6 feet tall. The luggage compartment of 416 liters is slightly smaller than that of direct competitors, but practical to use thanks to the adjustable load floor and fold-down rear seats. Starting with the First Edition, the car has an electric tailgate as standard.

Designs and prices

Toyota markets the Toyota C-HR+ in three trims: Dynamic Limited Edition, First Edition and Executive AWD.

The Dynamic Limited Edition is the entry-level version and has the smaller 57.7 kWh battery with 123 kW (167 hp). Still, standard equipment is extensive, with seat and steering wheel heating, a heat pump, 18-inch alloy wheels, a large 14-inch infotainment screen and the complete Toyota Safety Sense package. The top speed of this version is 140 mph. That might be a thing.

The First Edition features the large 77 kWh battery and an electric motor with 165 kW (224 hp_. The range of this Toyota C-HR+ is 609 kilometers. Additional equipment such as privacy glass, a power tailgate and optional 20-inch rims give this version a more luxurious look. The top speed is 160 km/h.

The Executive AWD is the top-of-the-line version of the Toyota C-HR+. This version has two electric motors with a combined output of 252 kW (343 hp), all-wheel drive, bi-tone paint, 20-inch wheels, suede and leather upholstery and a digital key. A heated windshield is standard. Those who opt for the Executive Plus Pack get a panoramic roof and a JBL sound system as well. Top speed is 180 km/h.

For both business and private customers, Toyota offers several leasing options. With Toyota Operational Lease or Toyota Private Lease, the Toyota C-HR+ is available from around 519 euros per month, rising to 689 euros for the top version.

Security and technology

Safety is traditionally a strong point of Toyota, and the Toyota C-HR+ also scores extremely well here. All versions come standard with Toyota Safety Sense. That system includes adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assistance, Proactive Driving Assist, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The Executive trim adds additional features, such as parking assistance and a panoramic camera system that provides all-round visibility while maneuvering. An interesting innovation is Safe Exit Assist: as soon as you open a door while traffic is approaching, the interior lights turn red as a warning.

The Toyota C-HR+ also features modern assistance systems such as Adaptive High-beam System and Lane Change Assist. In addition, the MyToyota app can be used to remotely schedule charging sessions, check charging status or activate climate control. Toyota even offers free EV coaching in the Netherlands, which teaches drivers how to use their electric car as efficiently as possible.

Efficiency and aerodynamics

The Toyota C-HR+ was designed with efficiency in mind. Its drag coefficient of 0.26 is among the best in its class. This is thanks to a flat underbody, integrated spoilers and cleverly placed air ducts that optimize airflow. The sloping roofline not only enhances the sporty appearance, but also contributes to lower drag.

The heat pump and efficient climate control ensure that energy consumption remains low, even in winter. Toyota deliberately chose practical efficiency over extreme charging speeds when developing the Toyota C-HR+. The car is designed to perform reliably and consistently no matter the conditions – a feature that appeals especially to business drivers.

Points of interest Toyota C-HR+

Although the Toyota C-HR+ convinces with its finish and handling, there are also some minor drawbacks. For example, it lacks the possibility of one-pedal driving, where the car comes to a complete stop without touching the brake. There are four regeneration modes, but it does not stop completely on its own. In addition, some driving assistance systems are quite emphatic with warning sounds that don’t always seem necessary.

The seating position in the rear is a bit higher due to the battery floor, which limits leg support. The luggage space is also slightly smaller than some competitors, and a small storage space under the hood – a so-called frunk – is missing. Still, these points do little to detract from the car’s strong overall appearance.

Conclusion review Toyota C-HR+: Toyota’s electric trump card in the SUV segment

With the Toyota C-HR+, Toyota is clearly aiming at the business driver, but private buyers will also be attracted by the combination of quality, ease of use and realistic technology. The car manages to couple refinement with reliability and offers exactly what many buyers in the electric SUV segment are looking for: comfort, efficiency and confidence.

Production of the Toyota C-HR+ will begin in early 2026, with the first examples coming to the Netherlands in March of that year. With its modern design, extensive safety equipment and high practicality, the C-HR+ seems to have all the ingredients to become one of Toyota’s most popular electric models.

A new C-HR chapter: Toyota C-HR+ The Toyota C-HR+ ushers in a new chapter for the Japanese brand.
