That raises a question – is this swearing in the church or belief in progress?

Ferrari set one condition from the beginning: “that a model like this would be introduced only if the available technology could guarantee the superior performance and authentic driving experience befitting the brand’s values.” So, if you do it, you have to do it right. Now that the technology is mature enough, Maranello dares to take the plunge with the Ferrari Elettrica. And it does so with conviction: more than sixty patented innovations, all developed in-house.

Ferrari must now…

Ferrari has actually been working on electrification for a long time. Not only good for performance, as in the Ferrari F80 with 1,200 hp, but also a little better for the environment. Now the bar is also really being raised in terms of sustainability with the Ferrari Elletrica. For the first time, both the chassis and the body are made of 75% recycled aluminum, resulting in an impressive CO₂ savings of 6.7 tons per car produced. A sign that even Maranello is thinking about emissions reduction.

Light, low and precise

The Ferrari Elettrica is built around a completely new platform with short overhangs and a compact wheelbase of 2,960 millimeters. The battery is fully integrated into the bottom plate, so 85% of the modules’ weight is under the floor and the rest is under the rear seat. That clever distribution provides an optimal balance of 47% front and 53% rear, an 80 mm lower center of gravity than in a comparable gasoline-powered Ferrari. So that promises sharp driving dynamics.

The battery was designed and assembled by Ferrari itself in Maranello. A small round of applause for the Italians, because with an energy density of nearly 195 Wh/kg, Ferrari is setting a new industry standard: this is the highest energy density of any electric car. The gross capacity is 122 kWh, with a charging capacity of up to 350 kW.

The battery is not a separate block, but a structural part of the chassis. The cells are cleverly positioned to minimize inertia-a pleasant idea in a Ferrari-and increase rigidity. The integrated cooling system is designed to optimize heat distribution and performance-also a nice idea in a Ferrari-that keeps the battery delivering constant efficiency even under prolonged load. Pretty handy if you want to drive several laps around the track.

F1 technology for the street

Under the skin, the brand takes direct inspiration from Formula 1. The Elettrica features two fully in-house developed electric axles, each equipped with two synchronous permanent magnet motors with Halbach array rotors – simply put, technology derived from racing, but now made suitable for production.

The front axle produces 210 kW (= 286 hp) and can be disengaged at any speed to convert the car to pure rear-wheel drive. Thus the Ferrari Elettrica maximizes efficiency and consumption when all-wheel drive is not needed. At full acceleration, the front axle delivers 3,500 Nm of torque to the wheels.

The rear axle tops that with 620 kW (= 844 hp) and has a power density of 4.8 kW/kg and 93% efficiency at peak load. In Performance Launch mode, the rear axle pushes a whopping 8,000 Nm toward the asphalt – you can seriously pull a lot of rocks out of the street with that. Together, the engines account for more than 1,000 hp in boost mode, with which the Elettrica sprints to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310 km/h.

Driving experience is central to Ferrari

Ferrari wouldn’t be Ferrari if it maximized driving experience. The three driving modes available – Range, Tour and Performance – determine how energy, power and traction are distributed. Via the paddles behind the wheel, the driver selects from five progressively higher levels of torque and power delivery, providing a sense of gradual acceleration and immediate engagement. The car feels not digital, but alive, as if the driver and machine are one. At least, that’s the intention.

And then there’s the sound. Because silence does not suit a Ferrari – thinking of the iconic twelve-cylinder cars. This aspect of the driving experience must be preserved thanks to a system that measures and amplifies the mechanical vibrations of the driveline components. Those vibrations are not digitally mimicked, but purely mechanically amplified, creating an authentic sound experience in sync with what the car is doing. according to Ferrari. The result: instant auditory feedback that enhances the driving experience.

Active suspension: grip as an art form

The Ferrari Elettrica’s active suspension is an evolution of the 48V technology that previously debuted on the Purosangue. Each wheel can independently control vertical forces, providing a combination of extreme control and exceptional comfort. The system uses a new recirculating ball screw – you know – with longer coils and lower inertia, which improves shock absorption.

Together with the four-engine powertrain and all-wheel steering, this is the first Ferrari to actively control vertical, longitudinal AND lateral forces. The engineers speak of a car that “thinks ahead” rather than reacts.

The journey to 2026

The Ferrari Elettrica has not yet been fully unveiled. In 2026, we will first get a taste of the interior concept, followed by the world premiere in spring next year, when Ferrari will show the complete car. Until then, this unveiling of chassis and powertrain already shows enough: Ferrari is not afraid to innovate.

Ferrari Elettrica – key specifications at a glance

Performance

0-100 km/h: 2.5 s
Top speed: 310 km/h
Power: 1,000 hp in boost mode
Range: 530 km

Dimensions and weight

Wheelbase: 2,960 mm
Weight approx.: 2,300 kg
Weight distribution: 47% front / 53% rear

Front axle

Power at the axle: 210 kW
Torque at the wheels: 3,500 Nm
Engine torque: 140 Nm in Performance Launch mode
Power density: 3.23 kW/kg (93% efficiency)
Engine speed: 30,000 rpm
Maximum inverter power:>300 kW
Weight: 65 kg

Rear axle

Power at the shaft: 620 kW
Torque at the wheels: 8,000 Nm
Torque at the engine: 355 Nm in Performance Launch mode
Power density: 4.80 kW/kg (93% efficiency)
Engine speed: 25,500 rpm
Maximum inverter power: >600 kW
Weight: 129 kg

Battery

Number of cells: 210 (15 modules with 14 cells)
Total power density: 195 Wh/kg
Cell density: 305 Wh/kg
Gross capacity: 122 kWh
Maximum voltage: 880 V
Maximum charging power: 350 kW

The Ferrari Elettrica is the first all-electric model in the brand's history.
