Lotus Eletre 600 has mega-battery<\/h2>\n

Geely – the parent company of Lotus – admits that not everyone is ready for electric driving yet. Thus, there is a pretty good chance that Lotus will also come out with a plug-in hybrid Eletre. The only question is: is it really necessary? Admittedly, the energy consumption of an EV like the Lotus Eletre 600 is a bit on the high side at 23 kWh per 100 kilometers, but because Lotus equips the car with a 111.9 kWh battery, you can still travel just under 500 kilometers on a full charge of electricity. And the charging rate of 355 kW – you read that right! – is so hefty that charging the battery pack only takes a few minutes. <\/p>\n

This is quite striking<\/h2>\n

So why add an internal combustion engine to this concept? Because it lacks the emotion of an internal combustion engine? If that’s seriously the only reason why customers would potentially abandon an electric Lotus Eletre 600, that’s pretty striking to say the least. Sure, engine noise is nice, but the Eletre 600 is so nice precisely because it combines comfort and silence with nimble handling. And the latter is particularly clever, since the car in question weighs about 2,600 kilograms. Lotus cleverly manages to mask that weight thanks to a handsome suspension and fine steering. <\/p>\n

\"Lotus<\/figure>\n

Sales figures <\/h2>\n

The need for a plug-in hybrid Eletre is not there as far as we are concerned, precisely because the car can charge faster than many an electric car. Anyway, it will undoubtedly also have to do with the fact that the Eletre is not yet a sales cannon. It certainly is a cannon, but in terms of sales figures the car could use a push in the right direction. Perhaps an alternative with PHEV technology will be the solution. Time will tell.<\/p>\n

Lotus Eletre 600: the entry-level car<\/h2>\n

By the way, don’t forget that the Lotus Eletre 600 is just “the entry-level model. There is also another model with 900 horsepower, effectively called the Lotus Eletre 900. The 600 is already extremely fast. System power comes out to 612 hp with 710 Nm of torque. Good for a 0-100 time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 258 km\/h. More than enough performance, in other words. <\/p>\n

\"Interior<\/figure>\n

Ridiculously good deal<\/h2>\n

And as mentioned at the beginning of this Lotus Eletre 600 review: this car is a ridiculously good deal when viewed soberly. After all, you can drive it starting at 103,795 euros. That model is then called Eletre 600. Even then you are already equipped with various conveniences, including a heat pump, a 29-inch head-up display, KEF Audio with 1,380 watts of power, Continuous Damping Control and Road Noise Cancellation. Pay 111,995 euros and you get the Eletre 600 GT, which has mostly software-based extras, such as a Parking Package and Highway Assist. <\/p>\n

Also as Lotus Eletre 900 Sport Carbon<\/h2>\n

The Lotus Eletre GT SE starts at 121,095 euros. That car has an intelligent glass roof, ambient lighting with 64 colors and KEF audio with 2,160 watts (23 speakers). The Eletre 600 Sport SE costs at least 134,295 euros. In that case it gets really fun, because the car then gets rear-wheel steering and anti-roll control, as well as seats with massage. If you really go all-in, then you end up with the Lotus Eletre 900 Sport Carbon. It costs 165,895 euros. Of course, that’s a lot of money, but actually a bargain compared to competitors. Looking at a Lamborghini Urus SE (a plug-in hybrid with 800 hp), we are talking about a price tag of at least 389,950 euros, excluding options. That suddenly makes that Eletre a fantastic deal, even if you opt for the 612-hp base version. <\/p>\n

\"Lotus<\/figure>\n

Rich history<\/h2>\n

“Yes, but the Lotus doesn’t have the badge of a Lamborghini,” I hear you thinking now. That’s not quite fair, because Lotus has a great motorsports history, think Formula One where the brand managed to win seven constructors’ championships and six drivers’ titles between 1958 and 1994. So count your winnings. In terms of motorsport history, Lotus has more to say than Lamborghini. <\/p>\n

Beautifully built, such an Eletre<\/h2>\n

In addition, the Lotus Eletre is beautifully built. Lotus has used clever aerodynamic tricks to minimize airflow. Compared to previous Eletre copies, the Lidar on the front roof is gone. It made too much noise. You can still get it, but at extra cost. The build quality of the interior is also of an exceptionally high standard. Beautiful materials, imaginative design and stunning displays, the Eletre has it all. <\/p>\n

Steering wheel controls, not like this<\/h2>\n

What the SUV also has is steering wheel controls that make your blood pressure spontaneously rise. The controls just don’t work well and those very buttons again feel plastic-fantastic. There is room for improvement here. Often simpler is better. Now Lotus has put design first, and not ease of use. On other points, however, the Lotus scores quite a few points, such as the speed of the infotainment system. Potjandrie, European and other Asian players could learn a thing or two from that. Crisp graphics, convenient menus, that’s how it should be. <\/p>\n

Also very spacious<\/h2>\n

Space aboard the Eletre is also adequate. Thanks to the wheelbase of 3,019 mm, you can also sit excellently in the back. The boot itself has a capacity of 688 liters to even 1,532 liters if you fold down the backrest. A frunk has also been thought of. It has a capacity of 46 liters. And do you want to tow a trailer? It can weigh up to 2,250 kilograms with brakes. <\/p>\n

Conclusion review Lotus Eletre 600<\/h2>\n

So, on paper, this Lotus Eletre beats a lot of other cars. The price is hefty, of course, but a bargain precisely in this segment. The build quality is of an exceptionally high level, the car drives well and miraculously also feels nimble despite the hefty vehicle weight. Here and there the Eletre has some beauty flaws, but the overall package stands like a house. Perhaps, then, this is a typical case of unknown makes unloved. <\/p>\n
