Volkswagen T-Roc in the Netherlands<\/h2>\n

In the Netherlands, the T-Roc is also extremely popular. Since its sales launch in November 2017 until early May 2025, the Dutch importer has sold as many as 27,500 units in the Netherlands. On an annual basis, Volkswagen sells more than 3,000 units. So the new T-Roc is eagerly awaited. <\/p>\n

The new T-Roc can be ordered from October 2025, but delivery does not start until the second half of December 2025. This is about the MHEV. The full hybrid (HEV) will not arrive on the market until September 2026. The extra sporty Volkswagen T-Roc R with 245 kW (333 hp) and 4Motion all-wheel drive will arrive in February 2027. <\/p>\n

End of story for T-Roc Convertible in 2027<\/h2>\n

The current generation T-Roc convertible will continue until August 2027. After that, it is over and out for this rather unique convertible. A fullsize convertible model has been built based on new T-Roc, but getting the business case right is a tricky story, according to Volkswagen CEO Thomas Sch\u00e4fer. “It’s just a particularly small market and that makes it difficult to justify the investment,” Sch\u00e4fer said in conversation with AutoRAI.nl.<\/em> <\/p>\n

In a secret studio in Munich, we get to know the second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc well before its Dutch market launch. With new hybrid drive systems for the entire range, a brand new interior, more space in the interior and luggage compartment and smart driving assistance systems, the second-generation T-Roc takes some big steps. The coupe roofline – a typical feature of the T-Roc – has been retained, but Volkswagen has reinterpreted the car’s design. <\/p>\n

\"Highlights<\/figure>\n

Volkswagen T-Roc is more aerodynamically efficient<\/h2>\n

An important plus point of the new design: the car has become more aerodynamically efficient: now 0.29 cW value, a ten percent better score compared to the first generation. This improved drag coefficient was achieved through numerous individual measures: at the front, the T-Roc is characterized by features such as air intakes, wheel arch spoilers and displacement elements for optimized airflow around the bumper and front wheels. <\/p>\n

At the rear, it is the elongated coupe roof with roof edge spoiler and side spoilers that reduce air turbulence, thus lowering drag. The rear diffuser was also integrated to achieve optimal aerodynamics. Aerodynamic fine-tuning was carried through to every detail of the bodywork. This includes the rims, the bottom plate of the T-Roc and the side mirrors. Those side mirrors can be familiar from the ID.7 and Tiguan. Special water guides in the A-pillar, which are also aerodynamically efficient, optimize acoustics at high speeds. <\/p>\n

T-Roc falls in between T-Cross and Tiguan<\/h2>\n

As ever, the T-Roc falls in between the smaller T-Cross and larger Tiguan. It is a five-seat crossover with coupe styling. Like the latest Tiguan (introduced in 2024) and Tayron (appearing in 2025), the new Volkswagen T-Roc is built on the MQB evo platform. For that reason, the T-Roc benefits from several technical upgrades and Volkswagen could make greater strides in sustainability. About 20 percent of all plastics in the car are made from recycled materials, which equates to a weight of up to 40 kg. The T-Roc is the first Volkswagen with such a high proportion of recycled materials. <\/p>\n

Dimensions Volkswagen T-Roc 2025<\/h2>\n

The car has also grown a bit. At 4,373 mm in length, the second generation is exactly 122 mm longer than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also increased: now 2,631 mm (+28 mm). This increase mainly benefits the interior space in the T-Roc. The car is further 1,562 mm high (+9 mm) and 1,828 mm wide (+9 mm). For imaging purposes, the current T-Cross has a length of 4,135 mm (difference 238 mm) and the Tiguan measures 4,539 mm (difference 166 mm). <\/p>\n

Even if persons in the front seat who are taller than 1.85 m are seated, passengers of similar height can sit comfortably in the rear thanks to the additional 122 mm to the length of the new T-Roc. An electrically adjustable ergoActive seat with 14 positions and massage function is available for the first time in the top Style version. There is also more luggage space. Thanks to the longer length, luggage compartment volume has now increased by 20 liters to 465 liters. The backrest folds down in a 40\/60 ratio. <\/p>\n

Reinvented: door openers<\/h2>\n

Providing more ergonomics was important during the development of this SUV. One example: the door openers have been redesigned and are now integrated into the front armrests of the doors. In this way, driver and passengers automatically grasp the silver-black handles and intuitively pull them up to open. This also works extremely well in practice. So other car manufacturers take note: this is a nice solution. The new T-Roc also adopts some details from the larger Tiguan and Tayron, such as the latest evolution of the driving experience controls (for example, for controlling driving profiles and volume levels).  <\/p>\n

Another novelty in this class is the T-Roc’s optional head-up display for the windshield. A new Digital Cockpit Pro in large rectangular format is also available. In addition to the usual displays, it offers for the first time a fully stripped-down display, since the full information spectrum is not always needed. <\/p>\n

Infotainment Volkswagen T-Roc<\/h2>\n

The interior is further equipped with all conveniences. Depending on the version, the T-Roc also has Digital Cockpit Pro (25.4 cm) and ChatGPT support. The infotainment systems of the new T-Roc are not improvements over their predecessor, but completely newly developed modules with new hardware and software. They are based on the fourth-generation modular infotainment system (MIB4). Two different 16:9 screen sizes are offered: the touchscreen of the basic version (without navigation function) has a diagonal of 26.4 cm (10.4 inches). Already from the second equipment level (Life), the T-Roc features a 32.8 cm (12.9 inch) touchscreen.  <\/p>\n

Basically, the T-Roc has a regular Digital Cockpit with a picture diagonal of 20.3 centimeters. You get the 26-inch Digital Cockpit Pro as standard from trim level Style, which is the third level. <\/p>\n

The navigation function here can be ordered directly with the vehicle configuration or activated later. The IDA online voice assistant is also available as an option. Many vehicle and infotainment functions can be controlled by natural speech via IDA. In addition, IDA answers specific questions on all conceivable topics. For this purpose, the system uses online databases and ChatGPT (artificial intelligence, AI). The applications of ChatGPT are almost endless, ranging from tips on restaurants or places of interest along the route to suitable music suggestions, business trends or even listening tales for any children on board. <\/p>\n

Always fun are the easter eggs aboard a Volkswagen. On a Tiguan, an iguana and tiger are hidden on the rear window. In this T-Roc, the rubber in the center tunnel incorporates a top view of a swimming pool, where you can also see people swimming. Funny, isn’t it? <\/p>\n

\"Powertrains<\/figure>\n

Powertrains Volkswagen T-Roc<\/h2>\n

Hybrid technology with an automatic transmission is standard. In Europe, the new T-Roc is powered by turbocharged gasoline engines with hybrid support. At market launch, two 48V mild-hybrid powertrains (1.5 eTSI) with 85 kW (116 hp) and 110 kW (150 hp) are available. These two electrified engines are mated to a seven-speed DSG (Direct Shift Transmission) transmission. <\/p>\n

Two more full-hybrid powertrains will follow at a later stage. Those full-hybrids – not plug-in hybrids – also use the 1.5 TSI gasoline engine. The hybrids come in 100 kW (136 hp) and 125 kW (170 hp) flavors. These versions have a more powerful electric motor and a slightly larger battery pack to cover longer distances 100% electric. The more energy you recover, the more the car can operate in EV mode. <\/p>\n

TQ1F transmission<\/h3>\n

The hybrids get a TQ1F transmission for HEV. They will not call a DSG7 gearbox, but a single-stage automatic. About the exact operation of that transmission, Volkswagen won’t clarify until a later stage. <\/p>\n

All engine variants have front-wheel drive. As with the previous model, the new T-Roc will later also be available with 4Motion all-wheel drive – combined with the 2.0-liter TSI, which will also get mild-hybrid (mHEV) technology in the future. <\/p>\n

“A plug-in hybrid is not in the planning for the time being,” states CEO Sch\u00e4fer in conversation with AutoRAI.nl<\/em><\/a>. “The car is technically suitable for it, but the market is not yet asking for a PHEV in this segment. So for now we will only offer a mild hybrid and full hybrid. That fits the market demand better.” <\/p>\n
