Monterey Car Week is the epicenter of the automotive world for a while in August. It once began as a small concours at Pebble Beach, but grew into a multi-day car festival that takes in the entire Monterey Peninsula. The California coast provides the backdrop for all the beauty the automotive world has to offer. Think hypercars that make their world debut, classics that shine again after years of restoration, and auctions where amounts drop that could buy a nice row house. This is what you can expect in the coming days. <\/p>\n

Thursday, Aug. 14 – warming up for the final weekend<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n

The day starts early with the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance at 7 a.m.. Enjoy classics that are not only beautiful, but really drive. Starting at 8 a.m., the auction hammer will sound at Mecum Auctions Monterey at Del Monte Golf Course. At 9 a.m. you can choose: Italian flair at the Ferrari Owners Club Concours Carmel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, German craftsmanship at Legends of the Autobahn at Pacific Grove Golf Links, browsing at Pebble Beach RetroAuto or soaking up atmosphere at the Concours Village (corner Stevenson and Forest Lake Road), where you’ll also get behind the wheel during the Mercedes-Benz Drive Experience. <\/p>\n

At 10 a.m., Ocean Avenue is the domain of the Prancing Ponies Women’s Car Show, followed by the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum at 11 a.m. Around noon, dive into the wooden past at Woodies in the Woods at Grand Cypress Meadow, Asilomar. Starting at 4 p.m. you can wine at Sportscar Vacationland at Tira Nanza Wines. Those with energy left will end the day swinging at Curves, Cars & Cabaret at 5:30 pm. <\/p>\n

Friday, August 15 – from posh Quail to old-fashioned rally fun<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Your Friday starts in style with the Porsche Club of America Werks Reunion at the Monterey Pines Golf Course – a reunion of sorts where everyone with a Porsche wants to steal the show. The Monterey Conference Center hosts the RM Sotheby’s auction<\/a>, where this McLaren F1<\/a> is likely to fetch more than $23 million. Also taking place this day is The Quail, “A Motorsports Gathering. There you will see the cr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me of the automotive world. <\/p>\n

At 11 a.m. The Quail Auction by Bonhams begins, but there’s also action on the streets: the Pacific Grove Rotary Concours Auto Rally departs at noon. By noon, you can take a trip back to the ’80s and ’90s at The Paddock ft. RADwood at Bayonet & Black Horse. <\/p>\n

Saturday, Aug. 16 – from faulty pearls to Italian flair<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Saturday kicks off with the Concours d’Lemons at Seaside City Hall Lawn. Here it’s all about the most bizarre, rusty and downright wrong cars. Then it gets chic at Concorso Italiano at the Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course, where it’s all about Italian beauty on four wheels. <\/p>\n

At the same time, there is Serata Campioni, an event with a racing history sauce. Seaside is buzzing with exotic bolides during Exotics on Broadway, free to attend and full of car spotting moments. Later in the afternoon, there’s another party for the tifosi: the Ferrari Event at The Barnyard Shopping Village in Carmel. <\/p>\n

Sunday, August 17 – the grand finale<\/strong><\/h2>\n

And then … the finale of a bizarre Monterey Car Week full of cars. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. On the lawn of Pebble Beach Golf Links, the world’s finest, rarest and often most expensive classics gather. Think of it as the Oscar Gala of the automotive world, with a focus on true classics. <\/p>\n

The firsts we are still looking forward to<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As if those events weren’t enough, Monterey Car Week traditionally sprinkles with world firsts. These are the reveals that should cause goosebumps this week: <\/p>\n

  • Acura RSX – an all-electric crossover coupe with a name fans remember from sporty 2000s coupes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Bugatti Brouillard – a hypercar with 1,159 kW (1,578 hp) and a carbon-aluminum chassis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Chevrolet ZR1X Quail Silver Edition – a special Corvette with exclusive paint color and serious muscle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Lamborghini Fenomeno(?) – this is not officially confirmed, but probably the most powerful Lamborghini ever awaits us.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          • Pagani parade – from the Zonda Monza to the Huayra R, a complete parade of super-exclusive Italian works of art.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Rezvani RR1 – a retro supercar with Martini striping, based on the Porsche 911.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  In short, if you spend the next few days wandering around Monterey, you don’t need to wonder if there is anything to do. Rather, you need to choose what you do want to see above all else.
