What kind of vehicle is the Silence S04?<\/h2>\n

The Silence S04 is an ultra-compact electric two-seater, developed in Barcelona and intended for urban mobility. Its dimensions are extremely modest: 2.28 meters long, 1.26 meters wide and 1.57 meters high. Yet it is not a moped in the classic sense of the word. Rather, it is a cross between a scooter and a small car, a so-called “NanoCar. You immediately notice that this vehicle is not meant for long highway rides, but it is ideal for daily city traffic. This is also apparent while driving: agile, nimble and surprisingly thoughtful. <\/p>\n

Who is this citycar for?<\/h2>\n

The S04 comes in two versions: the L6e, which can be driven with an AM license from the age of 15, and the L7e, which is more powerful and can get around on the ring road or provincial road. With that, Silence is not only targeting young people, but also city dwellers who don’t need a big car but are looking for the convenience of electric driving. Think of city commuters, parents who let their children drive from the age of 15, or residents of car-free neighborhoods. During testing, it is striking how intuitive the car drives: it feels familiar, even to those normally used to larger cars. <\/p>\n

How does the Silence S04 ride?<\/h2>\n

The S04’s handling surprises positively. The version we drove, the L7e, features two electric motors in the rear wheels. Together they deliver 14 kW (19 hp), peaking at almost 30 hp. This allows the car to sprint to 50 km\/h in less than 7 seconds. The top speed is 85 km\/h. Acceleration is direct, linear and perfectly suited to city traffic. The suspension – McPherson in the front, trapezoidal construction in the rear – is comfortable enough for cobblestone roads, while the disc brakes all around ensure a safe feeling. In short: you’re in something small, but it feels bigger. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

What about the range?<\/h2>\n

The S04 Long Range is powered by two lithium-ion batteries of 5.6 kWh each. Together, they offer a capacity of 11.2 kWh. In practice, the L7e gets to about 149 kilometers on a full charge, according to the WMTC cycle. The L6e goes a little further: up to 175 kilometers. For city use, that’s more than enough. During our test, we drove several short trips, and the remaining range barely dropped. Regenerative braking in Sport mode also helps to recover energy. <\/p>\n

How do you charge the car?<\/h2>\n

Charging can be done in three ways. You can leave the batteries in the car and charge through a normal wall outlet. You can take them out – they come with wheels and a handle, like a trolley – and charge indoors. And as a third option, you can use Silence’s Battery Stations via subscription, where you exchange empty batteries for full ones within 30 seconds. We haven’t tested the latter method, but the concept is refreshing in its simplicity and promising in its ease of use. <\/p>\n

What makes the S04 unique from other urban vehicles?<\/h2>\n

What is immediately noticeable is how well thought out the car is. Not only the battery concept, but also the equipment level makes a difference. Where competitors like the Citro\u00ebn AMI are mostly basic, the S04 has standard air conditioning, power windows, a digital screen, a multifunction steering wheel and Bluetooth. That makes the driving experience a lot more pleasant. It doesn’t feel like you’re in a stopgap solution, but rather a minimalist car where everything is right for its purpose. <\/p>\n

How practical is the interior?<\/h2>\n

Surprisingly spacious. The asymmetrical placement of the seats – the passenger sits a little further back – creates extra shoulder room. The seats themselves are comfortable enough for trips of an hour or more. The dashboard is clear and the controls are self-explanatory. In the rear, 249 liters of luggage space is available, which is enough for two weekend bags or groceries. Additional storage areas are provided under the floor and in front of the passenger’s feet. It all feels very functional and logically laid out. <\/p>\n

What can you do with the app?<\/h2>\n

Through the My Silence app, you link your smartphone to the car. This allows you to open and close the doors, operate the windows, locate your vehicle and view trip information, among other things. It is also possible to give access to other users through the app – useful if you share the car with family members. The app works smoothly and stably. The basic functions are free, the more extensive functions cost 3.50 euros per month from the second year. During testing, the app worked flawlessly and felt like a natural extension of the vehicle. <\/p>\n

What is the design like?<\/h2>\n

The design is typically Mediterranean: compact, playful and yet stylish. The headlight in the middle refers to Silence’s scooters, and gives the car a characteristic face. The LED daytime running lights in “eyebrow shape” give the nose something modern. The surrounding plastic panels protect the bodywork from urban hazards such as bollards and curbs. Everything looks cleverly conceived and built for the city. The car also feels solid; nothing rattles or squeaks. For a city vehicle in this class, that’s a big plus. <\/p>\n

What about security?<\/h2>\n

The S04 is homologated as an L6e or L7e and thus falls under light vehicle regulations. Airbags are not mandatory and thus not present. However, there are disc brakes all around and good visibility thanks to the high windows and panoramic windshield. Road handling is stable and predictable, thanks in part to the low center of gravity and wide rear tires. For urban traffic, the safety level more than satisfies, but it remains a light vehicle – something to consider at higher speeds. <\/p>\n

Is the Silence S04 affordable?<\/h2>\n

In Spain, the price starts around 9,870 euros for the L6e with battery subscription. If you choose to buy the batteries, the price increases by about 5,000 euros. The L7e sits slightly higher in price, but also offers more features. The monthly cost for the battery subscription (including charging via Battery Stations) is 39.99 or 49.99 euros per month, depending on the number of charges. Compared to other electric vehicles, this is competitively priced, especially if you don’t drive long distances. <\/p>\n

What is the conclusion?<\/h2>\n

The Silence S04 is neither a gimmick nor a toy car. It is a serious solution for urban mobility, with smart technology, a high degree of usability and sufficient comfort. During the test, it was particularly striking how mature it feels – despite its small size. Everything about this vehicle is designed with a purpose. The battery concept is innovative, the app integration works intuitively, and the handling is surprisingly pleasant. The S04 fills a gap between mopeds and electric cars. And it does so with conviction. <\/p>\n

Nissan and ACCIONA, the Spanish energy and infrastructure company, have entered into a strategic partnership to distribute the Silence S04, a compact all-electric city car. The Silence S04 is produced by Silence, an ACCIONA subsidiary focused on electric micromobility. <\/p>\n

What does the partnership entail?<\/h2>\n

From June 2024, Nissan has distribution rights for the Silence S04 and Silence electric scooters in France and Italy. From September 2024, this will be extended to other European markets, including Germany and the United Kingdom. Nissan will offer these vehicles through its existing network of dealers, including associated financing, service and insurance options. <\/p>\n
