Engineering from Affalterbach and Brixworth<\/h2>\n

The development of the powertrain of this Mercedes-AMG Concept AMG GT XX is the result of collaboration between Mercedes-AMG, Formula 1 specialists from Britain and electric motor company YASA. Together, the three axial flux motors deliver an output of more than 1,000 kW (1,361 hp). They are lighter and more compact than conventional motors and provide high power density and efficiency. Two of the three engines are located on the rear axle; the third acts as a boost engine on the front axle and is engaged when needed via a Disconnect Unit. <\/p>\n

Fast charging and constant performance<\/h2>\n

The powertrain is powered by a new High Performance Electric Battery. This battery uses direct-cooled cylindrical cells with aluminum casing, full-tab technology and a cell chemistry based on nickel, cobalt, manganese and aluminum. Thermal management allows the car to drive about 400 km after five minutes of charging (WLTP). Even during intensive use, the temperature remains stable, contributing to long-term performance. <\/p>\n

Production of engines in Berlin<\/h2>\n

The axial flux engines are built at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Berlin-Marienfelde. Production requires more than a hundred processes, dozens of which are new within the group. Mercedes-Benz has applied for several patents for these production steps. <\/p>\n

Concept AMG GT XX: exterior and aerodynamics<\/h2>\n

The design of the Concept AMG GT XX combines classic sports car elements with modern aerodynamics. The body is finished in Sunset Beam Orange color and features active aerodynamic elements, including an integrated airbrake and a new generation of air control systems such as Airpanel. The bottom plate is also designed for optimal air conduction. <\/p>\n

A special element is the use of “MBUX fluid light paint”: paint parts that light up during charging, based on electroluminescence. In the dark, this provides a visual signal. The aerodynamics are optimized for speeds above 300 km\/h. With a cw value of 0.198 and a frontal area of 2.24 m\u00b2, drag remains limited. <\/p>\n

Innovative wheels and all-wheel drive<\/h2>\n

The sports car features active, electronically controlled aero wheels with movable louvers. These adapt to the cooling requirements of the braking system. Each wheel hub contains an autonomous actuator that powers itself and communicates wirelessly. Power distribution among the four wheels is fully variable thanks to the AMG Performance 4Matic+ powertrain. <\/p>\n

Interior with motorsport influences<\/h2>\n

In the interior, a minimalist design was chosen, emphasizing visible technology and lightweight materials. Black surfaces are interspersed with orange accents and visible HV structural elements. The carbon bucket seats feature 3D printed ergonomic seat cushions tailored to the user. The dashboard visually references classic engine blocks. <\/p>\n

New materials in the interior<\/h2>\n

Mercedes-AMG is experimenting with biotechnologically produced materials in this concept car. The so-called Labfiber is an alternative to leather, made from recycled GT3 race tires, plant proteins and biopolymers. This material has the same look and feel as conventional leather and is fully recyclable. A silk alternative based on microbially produced proteins has also been used, including for the door handles. <\/p>\n

Communication through light and sound<\/h2>\n

Another notable detail is the MBUX fluid light panel at the rear, composed of more than 700 programmable RGB LEDs. The panel can display information about the charging process or visualize vehicle settings. The headlights are also multifunctional and house small speakers for displaying driving dynamics and warnings. <\/p>\n
