The chunkers<\/h2>\n

Following the Volvo<\/a> V40 are the Renault Scenic, Volkswagen Fox, Mercedes-Benz CLA and Volkswagen T-Roc. Remarkable: large SUVs, often labeled as bulky and clunky, are missing from this list. In fact, the Hyundai Tucson proves that an SUV can stay damage-free just fine, as that car is least often involved in a damage accident in the Netherlands. <\/p>\n

Why is the Volvo V40 at the top?<\/h2>\n

According to Menno Dijcks, car insurance expert at Independer, the V40’s length may play a role. “It is almost an estate car, and that makes maneuvering in tight streets sometimes just a little more difficult,” he says. But, he adds, “it’s not just down to the car, of course. Drivers and driving conditions also play a big role.” <\/p>\n

Brands with the most eye damage<\/h2>\n

At the brand level, Opel, Honda and Mercedes-Benz lead the way as damage-prone car brands. At the other end of the spectrum, Daihatsu, Mini and Hyundai excel in damage-free driving. According to Dijcks, this has more to do with how and where the cars are used than with the car itself. In short: drivers are more economical with their cars or simply better at driving. <\/p>\n

Where were the most claims driven?<\/h3>\n

Schiedam scores highest when looking at where the most car damage occurs. Other “dangerous” cities are Vlaardingen, Zaanstad, Lelystad and Capelle aan den IJssel. Leeuwarden, on the other hand, seems to be taking it easy and had very little collision damage in 2024. The difference? According to Dijcks, insurance premiums play a role. Schiedammers pay an average of 1,351.76 euros for third-party insurance, while Leewarders are a lot cheaper with 857.78 euros. Perhaps they drive more carefully there because they like to keep their premiums low. <\/p>\n
