The short answer: yes. And that immediately says a lot about this car.

Space as a starting point

Indeed, the Mercedes-Benz GLB is an electric SUV that not only bets on design and performance, but is also a model designed around space and flexibility. You notice this as soon as you get in, but especially when you take a seat in the back. Thanks to the wheelbase grown by six centimeters to 2.89 meters and a cleverly arranged interior, there is noticeably more legroom, while headroom has also increased.

In practice, that means you don’t have to be crammed in the back here. Even if you are tall, you sit relaxed. No knees against the front seat, no head hitting the roof, just a comfortable seat.

Five or seven seats

What makes the GLB especially interesting is that it is available with five or seven seats. With this, Mercedes is clearly targeting families and people looking for flexibility in their car. The optional third row of seats is especially suitable for children or shorter adults up to a length of 1.7 meters, but it does add additional uses.

The second row of seats is also sliding over a distance of 14 centimeters, allowing you to easily vary between legroom and luggage space, good for 140 liters difference. Folding down the seats creates a flat cargo floor with up to 1,715 liters of capacity. In the five-seat configuration, the boot is 540 liters as standard, while with seven seats you still have 480 liters remaining. This makes the GLB not only spacious, but also practically usable.

From EQB to CAP

With this new generation, Mercedes-Benz is opting for a different naming strategy. Whereas the electric variant was previously positioned as EQB, it is now simply called GLB. This blurs the distinction between electric and hybrid variants and creates more coherence within the model range.

Under the skin, the GLB shares its technology with the CLA, providing a modern platform and efficient powertrains. Interestingly, this generation first appears as an electric variant, followed later by mild-hybrid versions with 48V technology and a 1.5 four-cylinder gasoline engine an output of 100 kW (136 hp), 120 kW (163 hp) and 140 kW (190 hp).

A modern standard

The electric CAP is available as a 200, 250+ and 350 4MATIC. The 250+ and 350 in particular stand out when it comes to range and power. The 250+ boasts 200 kW (272 hp) and 335 Nm of torque, while the 350 4MATIC has a whopping 260 kW (354 hp) and 515 Nm of torque.

With up to 631 kilometers (WLTP) for the 250+ and 614 kilometers for the 350 4MATIC, this SUV offers figures that really make sense in real life. The GLB gets this driving range from a battery pack with a capacity of 85.5 kWh. There is also the GLB 200, with slightly more subtle values. The battery pack has a capacity of 58 kWh and is good for 430 kilometers according to the factory specification. Power output is 165 kW (224 hp).

The use of an 800V architecture ensures that the CAP not only uses energy efficiently, but can also charge quickly. Under ideal conditions, you charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes, with peak capacities of up to 320 kW. In addition, the GLB is prepared for functions such as Vehicle-to-Home and Vehicle-to-Grid, allowing it to serve as a power source in the future.

Towing weight – for when you don’t pull it anymore

What sets the GLB apart from many other electric SUVs is its practicality. For example, the 250+ may tow up to 1,500 kilograms, while the 350 4MATIC can even handle up to 2,000 kilograms thanks to its all-wheel drive. The maximum nose weight is 100 kilograms, making it suitable for a bike rack or trailer, for example.

No shortage of storage space, either. In addition to the generous rear luggage space, the GLB features a 127-liter frunk. This creates a combination not often seen in this class: lots of cargo space, flexibility and also a very useful towing capacity.

Interior full of technology

Up front, Mercedes-Benz puts a strong emphasis on technology and comfort. The MBUX infotainment system forms the heart of the dashboard, with multiple displays flowing seamlessly into one another. As a passenger, you also feel like royalty with your own screen, on which YouTube videos can be watched on the go.

Today, the “Mercedes-Benz Operating System” also uses Google services and AI, where you can expect a comprehensive response after a voice command with “Hey Mercedes. In fact, the information is obtained via the Internet. As sophisticated as these on-board technologies may be, it does mean that almost all functions are controlled via the screen. Fortunately, you can get used to it. Certain items, such as climate control, have a fixed place on the screen or can be operated automatically, so that you no longer have to worry about them.

The standard panoramic roof provides extra light and enhances the spacious feeling in the interior, while it can also be dimmed in parts, also nice for the on-board temperature. At night, as many as 156 stars become visible.

The finish is as you would expect from the German brand, with materials that feel solid and an interior that exudes tranquility. The seats are extensively adjustable and offer plenty of support, even on longer trips. Combined with the quality of the MBUX system, ambient lighting and other details, the whole thing feels like a lounge on wheels.

Design: functional and recognizable

The design of the GLB was deliberately kept a little more “boxy” and there is an obvious reason for that. This shape contributes directly to the interior space and makes the car practical to use. The upright lines allow for more headroom and the spaciousness of the interior.

So this SUV is not an aerodynamics marvel like the CLA Shooting Brake is, but the rounding does have a positive effect here. At the same time, the CAP remains recognizable with the modern Mercedes face, in which the stars in the grille shine – especially when it is dark.

Relaxed and efficient on the go

While driving, what is particularly striking is the calmness with which the GLB moves. Although it is not the smallest car, the SUV is very easy to steer and agile in its turns. With little effort, the GLB can be steered through corners without feeling too light or distant.

The electric powertrain adds to its comfort. Certainly the 350 4MATIC, with all-wheel drive, comes across as an SUV with a healthy dose of confidence, without being overbearing. The interior, steering feel and available power make for a comfortable driving experience.

The same goes for the suspension, which clearly has comfort as its main focus, without the whole thing feeling week. The navigation system even anticipates bumps in the road, with which the car anticipates upcoming bumps and manages to smoothly handle them. Smooth it certainly feels, when your CAP also features adaptive dampers.

The regenerative braking system works with multiple modes and can recover up to 200 kW of energy. This not only helps increase efficiency, but also makes for a more relaxed driving experience. Especially in automatic mode, power recovery is very easy, as the CAP itself calculates where and to what extent it is best to brake based on navigation data and on-board systems.

In addition, the available driving assistance systems, including level 2 semi-autonomous driving, actively support during longer trips, so you arrive less tired.

Mercedes-Benz GLB Prices

Prices for the electric Mercedes-Benz GLB start at 51,739 euros for the GLB 200 Business Solution. If you want more power and a longer range, then you’ll end up with the GLB 250+, which is available from 57,184 euros, making it the most interesting middle ground for many drivers. Indeed, the GLB 350 4MATIC is available from 68,195 euros and is aimed at those looking for just a bit more power and towing capacity.

Conclusion Mercedes-Benz GLB

With the new electric GLB Mercedes-Benz shows that electric driving need not come at the expense of practicality. The combination of a spacious cabin, flexible layout, modern technology and usable towing capacity makes this model a versatile choice.

What lingers above all is how complete the overall picture is. The GLB does not excel in one specific component, but rather in the balance of space, comfort and efficiency. And perhaps most importantly, you don’t have to wonder if you’ll fit in the back. That’s just fine.

So we ask the question: can you put your Gigantically Long Legs in the new electric Mercedes-Benz GLB?
