That in itself is special, but it becomes even more interesting when you look at the overall ranking. There, in fact, the Ford GT takes third place ever.  <\/p>\n<p>Even other top American cars have to give way. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, which also operates in the prototype category, falls slightly short of this Ford.   <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/AutoRAI_Ford_GT_Nurburgring_Record5-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-218412\"><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final piece of this Ford GT generation  <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Ford GT as you see it here is more than just a fast variant. The model is the definitive finale of the current Ford GT generation, which has its roots in the brand&#8217;s rich motorsport history. Think successes at Le Mans and, of course, the iconic Ford GT40.  <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/AutoRAI_Ford_GT_Nurburgring_Record-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-218416\"><\/figure>\n<p>Under the hood is a specially developed twin-turbo EcoBoost engine with an output of more than 587 kW (800 hp). Furthermore, this Ford GT features an advanced racing suspension from Multimatic, with Adaptive Spool Valve dampers that are controlled individually for each wheel. After all, when bumping through the famed Karussell, it&#8217;s nice to maintain grip. Combined with a specially developed racing transmission and carbon body with &#8220;long tail&#8221; configuration, everything is about performance.   <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Nordschleife as the ultimate yardstick<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The N\u00fcrburgring Nordschleife has been one of the toughest race tracks in the world for decades. With a length of 20.8 kilometers, considerable height differences and a succession of technical curves, it is a real test for man and machine &#8211; we experienced this ourselves <a href=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/review-ford-mustang-dark-horse-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">with the Mustang Dark Horse<\/a>. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/AutoRAI_Ford_GT_Nurburgring_Record2-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-218415\"><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It&#8217;s not just about the car<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The record lap was driven by Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Vervisch, factory Ford driver. No stranger to the Nordschleife, as he has already achieved several successes here, including a victory in the 24-hour race. In addition, he was still on the top step at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with the new Mustang GT3 in 2025.    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More than just a lap time<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the end, projects like this are not just about setting a fast lap. Okay, granted, in this case it is a bit, but the insights gained during such record attempts can eventually find their way into cars for normal people. <\/p>\n<p>Besides, it is a nice final chord for this generation Ford GT. It ends exactly as you hope: not quietly, but with a &#8220;bang.
