Code <\/h2>\n<p>The three study models are a follow-up to the 2024 ID presented in Beijing. Code, which introduced its new design language and innovative technologies. With the ID. Aura, ID. Era and ID. Evo, Volkswagen is showing how this vision is taking further shape within its <em>In China, for China<\/em> strategy.     <\/p>\n<h3>Three different approaches<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>ID. Era &#8211; Developed by SAIC Volkswagen, this spacious SUV with three rows of seats features so-called range extender technology: a fuel engine that recharges the battery on the road. The total range exceeds 1,000 kilometers (about 700 km with range extender, 300 km electric). <\/li>\n<li>ID. Evo &#8211; Designed by Volkswagen Anhui for a young, trend-sensitive audience. The all-electric SUV uses an 800-volt architecture and belongs to the ID. Unyx family. The model features an advanced electronic architecture that enables OTA updates and supports digital services.   <\/li>\n<li>ID. Aura &#8211; This notchback sedan from FAW-Volkswagen is built on the Compact Main Platform (CMP), developed specifically for the Chinese market. Targeting the price-conscious A-segment, the car combines modern technology with an AI-based user experience, including a humanoid assistant and a smartphone-like UI\/UX interface. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/volkswagen-concept-shanghai-foto1-1140x641.jpg\" alt=\"World premiere: Volkswagen unveils in Shanghai (from left) the c\" class=\"wp-image-198034\"><\/figure>\n<h2>Innovation for the Chinese market<\/h2>\n<p>All three concept models will be designed with the specific needs of Chinese consumers in mind. Production versions of these vehicles will be equipped with AI systems for highly automated driving up to level 2++. This will allow autonomous driving functions such as overtaking and merging in certain situations, if under the driver&#8217;s supervision.  <\/p>\n<h3>Strategic ambition<\/h3>\n<p>Volkswagen announced plans to introduce more than 30 new models in China through 2027, including more than 20 so-called New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). These include battery-electric models as well as vehicles with plug-in hybrid and range extender powertrains. <\/p>\n<p>According to Thomas Sch\u00e4fer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, the three concept cars are a tangible result of the local strategy. Stefan Mecha, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars China, emphasizes that the models are intended to serve diverse customer groups with advanced technologies. Thomas Ulbrich, CEO of the Volkswagen China Technology Center, says the development processes at the new R&amp;D center in Hefei can now be completed within 34 months.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Volkswagen ID.
