Germany and France follow in second and third place respectively with 120,625 (19.1%) and 119,255 (18.9%) charge points. In total, there are 632,423 public charging points within the EU. With about 3 million electric passenger cars on European roads, this equates to a ratio of one charging station for every five cars. <\/p>\n
The European Commission estimates that about 3.5 million charging points will be needed by 2030 to meet CO\u2082 reduction targets for passenger cars. However, ACEA considers that number too low and expects about 8.8 million charging points to be needed by 2030. To meet that target, 1.2 million charging stations would need to be added each year, or 22,438 per week. <\/p>\n
In addition to regular charging points, fast charging also plays a crucial role. Currently, the EU has about 75,000 fast chargers, which amounts to about one fast charger for every 40 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).
