Unexpected<\/h2>\n

“I didn’t expect it.” With those words, Sergio P\u00e9rez responded publicly for the first time to his departure from Red Bull Racing. The Mexican, who signed another contract extension in June, now faces an uncertain future in Formula One. At a lecture in the Mexican city of Le\u00f3n, he shared his thoughts on parting and the plans he is now making. <\/p>\n

Going fast<\/h2>\n

When asked if he will ever return to Formula One, P\u00e9rez is clear: “Honestly, I don’t know yet. It’s too early to give a definitive answer to that. Everything happened so fast at the end of the season. I really didn’t expect it.”<\/p>\n

This statement is in stark contrast to the course of events earlier in the season. P\u00e9rez nota bene signed another contract extension at Red Bull, but his performance subsequently plummeted, leading the team to decide to part with him anyway. Liam Lawson<\/a>, who previously impressed as Daniel Ricciardo’s replacement, is now Verstappen’s new teammate. <\/p>\n

Positive<\/h2>\n

Despite the disappointment over his departure, P\u00e9rez is positive about the future. “I am very happy with my life and look with enthusiasm at what is to come. I am in an incredible position,” he continued. “If a good and interesting project comes my way, I will definitely consider it.” <\/p>\n

Family<\/h2>\n

The Mexican stressed that his priority for the coming time is to relax and spend time with his family. “In the coming months I want to have fun, do things I haven’t been able to do before, travel and be with my family.” <\/p>\n

Return <\/h2>\n

P\u00e9rez expects to make a decision on the next step in his career within six months. He certainly does not rule out a return to Formula One. “If Formula One makes me happiest in the end, then I will return. I will only consider what will bring me the most happiness in the coming years.” <\/p>\n

So with the start of the new Formula One season approaching, with the Australian Grand Prix on March 16, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Sergio P\u00e9rez.<\/p>\n
