Normally we end a review with prices, but this time we start with them. \nThe gasoline version of the Jeep Avenger starts at 30,900 euros. \nThe new Avenger e-Hybrid? \nThat one is two grand more expensive, with a starting price of 32,900 euros. \nThe big question now is: is that 2,000 euros extra worth it? \nWe’ll give it away right away: absolutely! \nWe are now going to explain why. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
Spicier<\/h2>\n
Like the gasoline version, the hybrid version – which, of course, also runs on gasoline – has a 100-hp 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine under the hood. \nBut this version has a little extra: a little hybrid help. \nThat gives it extra muscle: 21 kW (28 hp) to be exact. \nThat makes the Avenger e-Hybrid just a little spicier, especially since that power from the electric motor is readily available. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
Mild hybrid or full hybrid?<\/h2>\n
Especially in the city, with a lot of stop-and-go traffic, the electric assistance comes into its own. \nThe electric motor provides extra torque at low speeds, resulting in smooth, quiet acceleration. \nBut even at small intermediate sprints you notice that you get a little push from the hybrid system. <\/p>\n
Officially, the Avenger e-Hybrid is a mild hybrid, but in practice it sometimes feels like a full hybrid car. \nAt low speeds, it drives all-electric for a surprisingly long time, something few mild hybrids imitate it. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n
Roll out<\/h2>\n
Power for the compact electric motor comes from a 0.9-kWh battery cleverly hidden under the front seat. \nRecovering energy the Avenger does during braking. \nAs soon as you release the gas pedal, it brakes very firmly on the electric motor. \nAgain, this is quite unique for a mild hybrid. \nMeanwhile, the gasoline engine does its best to stay economical. \nIt shuts itself off immediately when you release the gas pedal, for example when you are coasting or going down a hill. \nA six-speed automatic with double clutch ensures smooth transitions between the gasoline and electric motor. \nOnly when you suddenly depress the gas pedal deeply does the automatic have to search for the right gear, but otherwise it does its job nicely. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
Consumption<\/strong><\/h2>\n
In the city, the Avenger can do quite a bit of economical mileage, some of it electric. \nBut it also shows its economical side on the highway. \nAt a constant speed of 100 km\/h, time after time we effortlessly achieve a consumption of 1:22 on longer highway stretches. \nJeep promises that the hybrid system emits about 15% less CO2 than the standard gasoline version, and we believe it right away. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
Seating comfort with a side note<\/strong><\/h2>\n
The Avenger’s interior is modern and comfortable, with a rugged edge. \nThe seats are firm but comfortable, but a minor downside is the seating position. \nThe footrest sits quite far forward, while the steering wheel, on the other hand, cannot be pulled far enough forward. \nFor taller drivers, this can lead to an uncomfortable position, with knees bent and arms stretched to reach the steering wheel. \nOnce you find the right seating position, the Jeep Avenger is a comfortable car for long drives. \nOptionally, you can equip the front seats with a massage function and electronic adjustment. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
Tech<\/h2>\n
In terms of technology, the Avenger E-Hybrid is just fine. \nAs standard, you get a 7-inch digital instrument panel that displays all hybrid information nicely. \nThe infotainment system is uncluttered, although it’s not the fastest we’ve ever used. \nIt runs on a 10.25-inch screen, conveniently placed close to the steering wheel, so you only have to let go of the steering wheel briefly to operate the screen. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
Off-road capabilities and driving modes<\/h2>\n
As you would expect from a Jeep, the Avenger is also ready for some rougher terrain. \nThe Selec-Terrain system gives you a choice of six driving modes, including Snow, Mud and Sand. \nAs standard, the Avenger has Hill Descent Control, which allows it to descend steep sections in a controlled manner. \nOut of automatism, we photographed the Jeep in the woods, but most buyers will probably use it mostly in town and on the highway. \nThen again, the system does give you some extra versatility. \nAnd for those who really want to get into the mud, there is good news: in 2025 there will be an Avenger 4xe<\/a> with all-wheel drive. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n
