{"id":149051,"date":"2024-08-07T17:10:32","date_gmt":"2024-08-07T17:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/all-car-news.com\/expanding-trial-of-noise-meters\/"},"modified":"2024-08-07T17:10:32","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T17:10:32","slug":"expanding-trial-of-noise-meters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/all-car-news.com\/en\/expanding-trial-of-noise-meters\/","title":{"rendered":"Expanding trial of noise meters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"iprox-rich-content iprox-content inleiding\">\n<p>Noisy motorcycles and cars cause a lot of nuisance in Amsterdam.<br \/>\nIn 2023, a trial started with digital signs (&#8220;sound-smileys&#8221;) along the road.<br \/>\nThese should help reduce the nuisance.<br \/>\nThe digital signs are part of a broader approach with which Amsterdam wants to combat vehicle noise.   <\/p>\n<h2>Digital speed displays<\/h2>\n<p>The trial of the sound displays will continue this year at 5 new locations until the end of 2024.<br \/>\nThe digital signs resemble the familiar speed displays that indicate whether speeding is occurring.<br \/>\nThe measurements started in mid-July.<br \/>\nThe digital signs are at these 5 locations in the city.   <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"iprox-rich-content iprox-content tekst\">\n<ul>\n<li>Haarlemmerweg<\/li>\n<li>Cornelis Lelylaan<\/li>\n<li>Poppy Road<\/li>\n<li>Baden Powellweg<\/li>\n<li>Bijlmerdreef (as of mid-August)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"h9c5f3500-ae9c-4064-8989-2ceb3b4b0b4d\">This is how the screen works<\/h2>\n<p>On the streets mentioned, there is a roadside noise meter.<br \/>\nA little further along is a digital sign.<br \/>\nIf you drive your motorcycle or other vehicle past the noise meter and make too much noise, you will see the message &#8220;TOO LOUD&#8221; on the sign.<br \/>\nToo much means more than 80 decibels.<br \/>\nThe municipality expects you to ease up on your throttle next time.    <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"940\" height=\"415\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28009\" src=\"https:\/\/motorrai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/bord_tegen_geluidsoverlast_verkeer.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2>No voucher yet<\/h2>\n<p>Thus, no fines will be issued during this trial.<br \/>\nBelow the digital sign will be a sub-sign that reads &#8220;Quietly passing through the neighborhood.&#8221;<br \/>\nThis emphasizes that this is a trial against noise pollution from traffic.<br \/>\nBy the way, in 2024 the amount of the fine for a noise violation will be 280 euros.<br \/>\nAn offense formally exists if your motorcycle produces more than 80 dB during a dynamic measurement, i.e. driving past a meter.    <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ha404c85d-b16c-4a6a-a1aa-31ad6c4b227d\">Annoying and unhealthy<\/h2>\n<p>Research by GGD Amsterdam shows that motorcycles are the largest source of noise pollution in Amsterdam.<br \/>\nAs many as 19 percent of adult Amsterdam residents experience serious noise pollution from motorcycles.<br \/>\nNoise from mopeds, motorcycles and other vehicles also cause nuisance.  <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"hcbcc3694-6328-4acf-b2d3-6cef31ec051a\">Causes<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier research by TNO showed that extreme vehicle noise is mainly caused by incorrect driver behavior, such as accelerating too quickly or by modifications to the vehicles.<br \/>\nExamples include illegal exhausts or modifications that make vehicles make extra loud noise. <\/p>\n<p>By the way, the measurement results can be viewed online at <a class=\"externLink ga-tracked tracked-async\" href=\"https:\/\/portal.glimi.nl\/dashboard\/noise-events\/day\/1267e396-b23a-43f3-9b81-7305d36c2dc4\">https:\/\/portal.glimi.nl\/dashboard\/noise-events\/day\/1267e396-b23a-43f3-9b81-7305d36c2dc4.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Noisy motorcycles and cars cause a lot of nuisance in Amsterdam.
