{"id":148007,"date":"2024-09-30T09:54:47","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T09:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/all-car-news.com\/jlr-puts-500-million-into-electric-ambitions-halewood-becomes-ev-factory\/"},"modified":"2024-09-30T09:54:47","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T09:54:47","slug":"jlr-puts-500-million-into-electric-ambitions-halewood-becomes-ev-factory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/all-car-news.com\/en\/jlr-puts-500-million-into-electric-ambitions-halewood-becomes-ev-factory\/","title":{"rendered":"JLR puts \u00a3500 million into electric ambitions &#8211; Halewood becomes EV factory"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Key role<\/h2>\n<p>JLR has big plans for Halewood.<br \/>\nThe plant will play a key role in the electrification of the brand.<br \/>\nInitially it will still produce different types of powertrains side by side, but eventually Halewood will become JLR&#8217;s first all-electric production facility.<br \/>\nThe company aims to be carbon-neutral not only in production but also throughout the supply chain by 2039.   <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"760\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Halewood_05-1-1140x760.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-186031\"><figcaption> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>New production lines and technology<\/h2>\n<p>JLR has already made its fair share of investments.<br \/>\nAbout \u00a3250 million has already been spent on construction activities and installing new technology, among other things.<br \/>\nAs a result, the plant has been expanded by some 32,000 square meters.<br \/>\nThis additional space is needed for the production of electric SUVs using the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform.<br \/>\nIn addition to new production lines, 750 robots capable of working independently have been installed.<br \/>\nThe plant also uses laser technology and digital control systems to make production processes as efficient as possible.     <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Halewood_10-1-1140x758.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-186030\"><figcaption> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Plant sustainability measures<\/h2>\n<p>Sustainability is high on the agenda in Halewood&#8217;s transformation.<br \/>\nJLR is committed to a mix of renewable energy sources, alternative fuels and energy efficiency to dramatically reduce the plant&#8217;s CO2 emissions.<br \/>\nThe goal is to save 40,000 tons of CO2 annually.<br \/>\nAmong the plans is the installation of 18,000 solar panels, which will generate some of the electricity needed.   <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"726\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Halewood_11-1-1140x726.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-186027\"><figcaption> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Training for the future<\/h2>\n<p>The switch to electric cars also means retraining employees.<br \/>\nJLR is therefore investing \u00a320 million a year in training.<br \/>\nA special training center is being opened in Halewood, where employees can develop new skills.<br \/>\nSo far, 1,600 employees have taken a course on working with the high-voltage technology needed to produce electric cars.   <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"760\" src=\"https:\/\/autorai.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Halewood_09-1-1140x760.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-186028\"><figcaption> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Key role JLR has big plans for Halewood.
