Transition to sustainable mobility<\/h2>\n

The association’s proposed measures are essential to the transition to sustainable mobility in the Netherlands. General Chairman Frits van Bruggen, says: “If we stick to current policies, our CO2 targets will get further out of sight and mobility will become unaffordable for more and more people. In addition, the lack of innovation and the lagging transition to clean mobility would not only jeopardize environmental and climate goals, but also limit economic opportunities for the Netherlands and weaken our international competitive position.”<\/p>\n

9measures needed for the Netherlands<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1 – Incentives for electric cars after 2025:<\/strong> Accelerate the uptake of electric cars by continuing tax incentives after 2025. Currently, consumers are reluctant because of the phasing out of tax breaks after 2025.<\/p>\n

2 – Transition car taxes to use rather than own:<\/strong> Replace fixed car taxes with a Pay by Use system with environmental component. This encourages fuel-efficient driving and rewards the purchase of clean vehicles and encourages sustainable behavior among both citizens and businesses.<\/p>\n

3 – Coverage for lost tax revenue:<\/strong> The central government should seek alternative funding sources for declining tax revenue from electrification rather than raising taxes for non-electric car users. This prevents driving from becoming unaffordable for a segment of society.<\/p>\n

4 – Investment in infrastructure for sustainable mobility:<\/strong> Invest in loading and refueling infrastructure for zero-emission trucks and increase the use of advanced renewable fuels to promote sustainable mobility.<\/p>\n

5 – Making logistics sustainable to zero emissions by 2050:<\/strong> A financial injection into zero-emission trucks is needed, to invest in sustainable solutions for regional and long-distance transportation. <\/p>\n

6 – Encourage bicycle use: <\/strong>Maintaining mileage reimbursement for commuters who bike to work encourages bicycle use and reduces CO2 emissions<\/p>\n

7 – Battery Innovation and Trade Agenda:<\/strong> Batteries and auto parts are essential to a sustainable economy are. Dutch truck manufacturers urgently need raw materials, battery innovation and recycling. The government should actively encourage and support circular activity in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

8 – National Growth Fund: <\/strong>The growth fund is an important boost to the sustainable earning capacity of the Netherlands. The government should play an active role in marketing innovations from the fund and continue to encourage new innovation through schemes.<\/p>\n

9 – Encourage motorized two-wheeler: <\/strong>Encourage and actively support the use of (electric) mopeds, scooters and motorcycles for sustainable commuting on (medium) long distances.
