Such a practical powerhouse emits quite a bit of CO2, and that is punished with sky-high BPM fines. It makes pickup in the Netherlands unaffordable for normal consumers. But what if you equip a pickup with a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid system? The CO2 emissions then drop as much as the BPM amount. By 2025, the very first Ranger PHEV should be on the market. The powertrain of the new Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid is formed by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine, a powerful electric motor and a rechargeable battery with enough capacity for a purely electric range of over 40 kilometers. The maximum towing weight (braked) must remain the same: 3,500 kg.
