That the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is going to be a spectacle, we already knew. The peppery electric hatchback shares its technology with the Kia EV6 GT<\/a>, gets an output of nearly 600 horsepower and even has a real drift mode<\/a>! Hyundai’s new teaser video shows for the first time that the Koreans are also giving the Ioniq 5 N its own engine sound. In terms of sound, the sound remotely resembles that of an internal combustion engine, but intertwined with the typical buzz of an electric car.<\/p>\n

The video shows the Ioniq 5 N on the streets of Seoul and at the iconic N\u00fcrburgring. The latter is not surprising, since Hyundai’s N division has its own development center nearby. The small N\u00fcrburgring stickers on the rear windows of the Ioniq 5 N already reveal that the car has racked up test miles there. So driving pleasure is pretty high on Hyundai’s list of priorities, something the drifting Ioniq 5 N illustrates well.<\/p>\n

Also noise at throttle release<\/h2>\n

The most special thing about the soundtrack of the Ioniq 5 N is that it incorporates certain features of an internal combustion engine. For example, the video shows the engine tapping the “rev limiter” and the car appearing to give “thuds” when the throttle is released. This is all in quotes, of course, because it’s all fake. Yet artificial noise can indeed add to driving pleasure. In many modern internal combustion engines, thuds in the exhaust are also basically triggered artificially.<\/p>\n

Appearance Ioniq 5 N<\/h2>\n

An AutoRAI reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, recently spotted the Ioniq 5 N near the N\u00fcrburgring. The photos clearly show the external modifications of the hot EV. Thus, the Ioniq 5 N gets a special front and rear bumper, wider fenders and a unique roof spoiler with a triangular third brake light. Given all the teasers, it presumably won’t be long before Hyundai pulls the curtain off the Ioniq 5 N. In any case, we are very curious about this bombshell!<\/p>\n
