North, Central and South America<\/h2>\n

It is a record that has never been set before: driving a car from the North Pole to the South Pole. British couple Chris and Julie Ramsey take on the challenge in the all-electric Nissan Ariya. They left from the North Pole on March 31 and hope to reach the Antarctic South Pole in December. The ride, of a solid 27,000 kilometers, will take the couple through North, Central and South America. The car has already completed a 5,000-kilometer journey to get to the starting point of the expedition.<\/p>\n

39-inch<\/h2>\n

Only a few modifications were made on the Nissan Ariya to make the car suitable for the rugged terrain the team encounters. For example, the suspension has been lengthened so that the Ariya<\/a> sits higher on its wheels, and it has giant 39-inch tires that let it “float” on the deep arctic snow and sea ice. The wheel arches have also been enlarged to accommodate these yokes. The powertrain has not changed. The couple drives the fattest version Nissan sells: the e-4ORCE with all-wheel drive.<\/p>\n

Generator<\/h2>\n

During their journey through remote polar regions, the couple uses a special generator to generate energy. This generator has a wind turbine and solar panels that unfold and fold.
