The BMW M3 CS: more power!<\/h2>\n

The recipe of the new BMW M3 CS is completely similar to the previously proposed M4 CS. So here again, sportier looks, a more dynamic chassis and more power coming from a further developed version of the six-cylinder in-line gasoline engine from the BMW M3\/BMW M4. Like the M4 CS, the block has been firmly taken care of.<\/p>\n

Six-in-line modifications<\/h2>\n

For example, the crankcase has a closed-deck design without a liner, very high rigidity, and thus can withstand high pressure. Lightweight iron-coated cylinder liners, applied by an arc wire spray (LDS) process, reduce internal friction. The core of the cylinder head is made with a 3D printing process. This gives the channels for the coolant the ideal shape, which BMW says is not achievable with traditional metal casting processes. <\/p>\n

Power and torque<\/h2>\n

BMW also increased the turbo pressure of the two Mono-Scroll turbochargers, from 1.7 to 2.1 bar. The engine management has also been modified. Top power, totaling 405 kW (550 hp), is another 30 kW (40 hp) higher than that of the BMW M3 Competition Sedan. Already between 2,750 and 5,950 rpm, the maximum torque of 650 Nm is available. Maximum power is available at 6,250 rpm; the maximum engine speed is 7,200 rpm.<\/p>\n

Performance BMW M3 CS<\/h2>\n

The interplay between engine, transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive results in a 0-100 sprint of 3.4 seconds. After just 11.1 seconds, 200 km\/h is reached from standstill. The intermediate sprint from 80 to 120 km\/h takes 2.6 seconds (in fourth gear) or 3.3 seconds (fifth gear). The top speed of the BMW M3 CS, which comes standard with the M Driver’s Pack, is electronically limited at 302 mph.<\/p>\n

Exhaust System<\/h2>\n

BMW also installs a sport exhaust system with electronically controlled valves, a lightweight titanium muffler and two matte black exhaust tailpipes. In the SPORT and SPORT+ driving programs in the M Setup menu, the sound increases.<\/p>\n

M xDrive all-wheel drive<\/h2>\n

The BMW M3 CS features M xDrive all-wheel drive. The electronically controlled blade clutch distributes torque steplessly and fully variable to the front and rear wheels. The optimized oil supply of the lamellar clutch also ensures optimal performance of the all-wheel drive system during top performance on the track. The emphasis of the drive is on the rear wheels. The car also has a fully variable active M differential on the rear axle.<\/p>\n

From 4WD to 2WD, you can!<\/h2>\n

The M Setup menu allows the driver to choose 4WD Sport mode in addition to the default 4WD setting. This puts even more emphasis on the rear wheels. In addition, with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) disengaged, 2WD mode is available. In it, all the drive power goes to the rear wheels and the control systems do not perform stabilizing operations. Weight reduction<\/h2>\n

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has been used liberally. Thus, not only the roof of this special M model is made of carbon, but also the hood, front splitter, front air intakes, exterior mirror caps, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. In the interior, the center console, steering wheel knobs and interior moldings are made of CFRP. The standard M Carbon bucket seats provide further weight savings. Thanks to titanium mufflers, the exhaust system of the BMW M3 CS is also more than four kilograms lighter. In total, all the weight savings make the BMW M3 CS about 20 kilograms lighter than the BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive.<\/p>\n

Production BMW M3 CS<\/h2>\n

Production of the BMW M3 CS will begin in March 2023. BMW is producing the model in small numbers at BMW Group’s Munich plant. The market launch will also take place in March 2023. The main markets for this special M model are the United States, Germany, Great Britain and Japan. In the Netherlands, the BMW M3 CS is available for 191,844 euros.<\/p>\n
