Chinese cars safe? Yes!<\/h2>\n

Chinese now can build very decent cars. We wrote<\/a> earlier this week about the shower of stars in recent Euro NCAP crash tests. Chinese cars sometimes turn out to be even safer than European models. Still, every now and then a Chinese car gets bad news.<\/p>\n

Haval H6<\/h2>\n

The bad news this time comes from China<\/a> itself. Indeed, there a man had to stay concentrated behind the wheel of his Haval H6 crossover for over 500 kilometers because he could not turn off the cruise control function. No matter what he tried, the car kept going at the programmed speed of 100 mph.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Empty<\/h2>\n

The man, identified in local news reports as Mr. Luo, was driving around the city of Zhuzhou in Hunan province. The cruise control system was clearly confused, so even the brakes did not respond to the brake pedal. This broke the man emotionally, causing him to panic and start crying. Fortunately, he was able to recover and call the highway police, who summoned several vehicles and organized an escort for the runaway vehicle. In fact, there was only one thing to do: stay on the highway and empty the tank. After 500 kilometers, the tank was finally empty and the car came to a stop.<\/p>\n

China’s most popular SUV<\/h2>\n

Piquant detail: the Haval H6 has been the best-selling SUV in China every month for nearly two years. It entered the market in 2011 and the current, third generation was released in 2020. The car – unlike almost all Chinese cars coming to Europe – is not fully electric. Under the hood is a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter gasoline engine.   <\/p>\n
