Not every viewer or driver loves it: sprint racing. Still, the extra-short Formula One races – 100 kilometers in length – are back on the agenda next year. Indeed, according to the Formula One organization, the sprint races are a great success. “We have had tremendously positive reactions to the sprint events and we would like to present the fans with even more action next year,” said Formula One boss Stefano Domenicali.<\/p>\n

Max Verstappen<\/h2>\n

So viewers love it, according to the organization, but Max Verstappen<\/a> regularly expresses criticism of the new format. “I’m not a fan of it, it feels like we’re not really racing. True, you get some points, but you also know you can’t go full out because it’s a day later when it really matters. You don’t see a lot of overtaking. I don’t have much fun with it.”<\/p>\n

Six sprint races<\/h2>\n

Bad luck for Max, as the F1 organization<\/a> previously decided to double the number of sprint races from three to six. Formula One has studied which tracks are best suited for sprint racing. Six tracks have now been designated where drivers can overtake each other relatively easily and where they can drive close behind each other. So you won’t be surprised that no sprint race is scheduled at Zandvoort next year.<\/p>\n
