Fifth-generation Toyota Prius (2023)<\/h2>\n

Meet the fifth-generation Toyota Prius (2023). The streamlined basic shape of earlier generations has been retained, but Toyota is completely redesigning it. The new Toyota Prius looks just about sexy and sporty thanks to a coupe-like silhouette. The body is highly streamlined to optimize airflow and contributes to the car’s efficiency, handling and stability. <\/p>\n

New Prius logo<\/h2>\n

Lowering the overall height by 50 mm, moving the highest point of the roof to the rear and applying wheels with larger diameters – up to 19 inches – creates a smooth, sleek silhouette. The striking shape is enhanced by a 50 mm longer wheelbase compared to the previous generation. At the same time, the overall length was reduced by 46 mm. The width has increased by 22 mm over its predecessor. The headlights have been given a distinctive “hammerhead” shape. The rear view is accentuated by a three-dimensional linear light element and the new Prius logo.<\/p>\n

Not electric, but a plug-in hybrid<\/h2>\n

The fuel-efficient powertrain remained. The new generation will be delivered in Europe exclusively as a Plug-in Hybrid. So fully electric the new Prius is not. This is a deliberate choice by Toyota. “Toyota is committed to carbon neutrality. Hybrid technology continues to make an important contribution to reducing carbon emissions and the transition to zero emissions<\/em>,” the spokesperson said. The new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid also strengthens the diversity in the powertrain lineup, according to the brand.<\/p>\n

Powertrain fifth-generation Toyota Prius 2023<\/h2>\n

Toyota<\/a> combines an electric motor with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, good for a combined output of 223 hp (164 kW). The 2.0-liter engine produces 148 hp (111 kW). The new 160 hp (120 kW) transaxle engine brings system power to 223 hp. The current generation Prius<\/a> PHEV has 122 hp (90 kW), so the new Prius goes a long way in terms of power.<\/p>\n

13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery<\/h2>\n

The EV range is over 50% greater than that of the current generation. This is possible thanks to a new 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. Optimized battery packaging is possible thanks to cells with higher energy density. The battery pack is thus compact enough to be placed under the rear seat, resulting in a lower center of gravity. Via solar cells on the roof, the battery can be charged, but also with a normal plug.<\/p>\n

Second-generation GA-C platform<\/h2>\n

The new Prius is built on Toyota’s second-generation GA-C New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. This platform offers more space, as well as a sportier ride. The seating position is lower. The spacious cabin uses the new three-part “Island Architecture” layout for a tidy and spacious interior, consisting of the environment, driver’s module and floating instrument panel. Displays and controls are placed in familiar locations.<\/p>\n

Conventional interior for Toyota Prius 2023<\/h2>\n

In the rather conventional interior – not bad at all, by the way – we detect a 7-inch TFT LCD screen and a newly designed instrument panel with a clean layout. The instrument panel lighting is linked to notifications from Toyota Safety Sense and expresses warnings through color changes.<\/p>\n

The fifth-generation Toyota Prius will appear in Europe in the second quarter of 2023. By then, prices will also follow and we will do a comprehensive review.<\/p>\n
