So Max Verstappen gets competition from his own country. Nyck de Vries may try his hand at Formula One starting in 2023. The 27-year-old Dutch driver begins his official F1 racing career with one Grand Prix already to his name, having made a stand-in appearance for Alex Albon at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. In addition, he completed several FP1 sessions in 2022. <\/p>\n

Nyck dominates in other categories and already has a number of titles to his name: notably, he was the 2020-21 FIA Formula E world champion and the 2019 FIA Formula 2 champion, as well as the 2010 and 2011 karting world champion. <\/p>\n

Formula One is a dream<\/h2>\n

De Vries: “I am extremely looking forward to joining Scuderia AlphaTauri in 2023 and I would like to thank both Red Bull and the team for giving me the opportunity to drive in F1. After Formula 2, I took a slightly different path with motorsports, but F1 has always been my dream and I am grateful to be able to fulfill it. I have had many opportunities to experience the 2022 car this year and I think that has put me in a great position for the upcoming season. I hope that has helped prepare me for what is to come.”<\/p>\n

Scuderia AlphaTauri an Italian team<\/h2>\n

He continued: “Having spent most of my teenage years in Italy karting, I’ve always felt at home there, so for me to join an Italian team, which already has a real family feel, is great and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and starting to build our relationship before next season.” <\/p>\n

Franz Tost, Scuderia AlphaTauri team boss, added: “Scuderia AlphaTauri had a very successful time with Pierre. We will never forget his fantastic victory in Monza and his podium finishes in Brazil and Azerbaijan. I would like to thank Pierre for all the effort he has put into the team over the past years and I wish him all the best for his future. Now we are excited to start a new chapter with Nyck, who will be warmly welcomed at Scuderia AlphaTauri.”<\/p>\n

Strong lineup F1 2023<\/h2>\n

According to Tost, De Vries is a very skilled driver, having won in all the categories he competed in, with many races and championships to his name. “His last big success was winning the Formula E World Championship, and this is clear evidence that he is a very competitive driver who deserves a place in F1. I am looking forward to seeing him in our car and I am confident that with Yuki and Nyck we will have a very strong line-up for 2023.”<\/p>\n
