What time does France’s qualification start?<\/h2>\n
Qualifying for the GP of France begins Saturday, July 23, at 4<\/strong> p.m. Max Verstappen enters qualifying as World Cup leader with a 38-point lead over number two Charles Leclerc. In third place is Sergio Perez with 19 points behind the Monegasque. Last year, Verstappen managed to take pole at Paul Ricard. P2 was for Hamilton and Bottas qualified third.<\/p>\n
With the Limburger on pole, the race in France started last year. Yet it was Hamilton who was in the lead after the first corner after a mistake by Max. After the first pit stops, Red Bull managed to take back that lead position. Later in the race, Red Bull opted for an alternative strategy. For where many teams opted for a one-stop, Verstappen was brought in for the second time for a new set of rubber. This did put the Dutchman behind Hamilton, but the fresh tires allowed Verstappen to overtake Hamilton a lap before the end. In addition, the Dutchman also received an extra point for the fastest lap. Verstapen’s teammate Sergio P\u00e9rez, in turn, passed other Mercedes driver Bottas late in the race and eventually finished third. <\/p>\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n
What you need to know about Paul Ricard?<\/h2>\n
Circuit Paul Ricard is also known as Le Castellet, named after the plateau of the same name an hour’s drive from Marseille. The track is as tight as a billiard cloth and therefore lends itself perfectly as a test track for racing cars, as well as passenger cars. The track is incredibly versatile, as it can be driven in no less than 167 ways. The configuration on which the F1 cars run offers a combination of fast straights and technical sections where the speed is taken out again considerably. There are rarely any dropouts in an F1 race at Paul Ricard, partly due to the huge blue-red run-off strips on either side of the track. Because of the open plain and the altitude at which the track is located, drivers often complain about the changes in wind causing imbalance in the car. <\/p>\n
