In times of crisis, even governments can act quickly. Measures that were previously never thought possible are suddenly no longer a problem and complex legislative and budget changes are suddenly arranged within a day. Just think of the far-reaching sanctions against Russia, or Germany that suddenly invests 100 billion extra in the Bundeswehr. Also in the Netherlands a lot of topics are suddenly open for discussion. Such as, for example, a reduction in excise duty on fuel.<\/p>\n

Excise duty reduction  <\/strong><\/h2>\n

This morning we wrote<\/a> that the Dutch government has decided to introduce an excise duty reduction on petrol and diesel, but only from 1 July. While the pain is now the greatest. At the time of writing, the suggested retail price for a liter of Euro95 is 2.492 euros and for diesel 2.379 euros. With prices like that, five months is quite a long time.<\/p>\n

April 1st<\/h2>\n

But Minister Karien van Gennip of Social Affairs has good news. On Friday after the cabinet meeting, she announced that the tax cut would come months earlier. Namely from 1 April. So three months earlier.<\/p>\n

Due to the reduction in excise duty, you will pay 17 cents less per liter of petrol from April, and diesel will be 11 cents cheaper. With the current petrol price, a liter of petrol then comes out at 2,322 euros. There is absolutely no question of cheap petrol yet, we don’t even dare to write the word ‘affordable’. But at least it’s something. Refueling across the border still remains very attractive, because thanks to a serious reduction in excise duty in Belgium<\/a> , fuel prices there will fall a lot faster than with us.<\/p>\n

Energy prices from 1 July<\/h2>\n

The VAT on energy will only decrease from 1 July. Gas and electricity are then subject to a low VAT rate of 9 percent, instead of 21 percent. Owners of electric cars therefore have to wait a little longer before they can charge their car at home.<\/p>\n
