With these models, Jeep goes fully electric

September 8, 2022

Jeep 4xe

Jeep’s electrified powertrains fall under the umbrella of “4xe” (pronounced “four by e”). Under this label, Jeep already brought powerful and fuel-efficient plug-in hybrids such as the Renegade 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, Compass 4xe and Wrangler 4xe, with the latter even being the best-selling PHEV in America. Now Jeep is announcing four all-electric models, scheduled to hit the market in America and/or Europe before 2025.

Wagoneer and Wagoneer S 4xe

Even the largest model in the Jeep family will not escape an all-electric powertrain. The electric Wagoneer gets a range of 500 miles, or 800 kilometers. For now, there are no signs of Jeep bringing this model to Europe. Instead, we can expect the Wagoneer S in Europe. This is because the addition to the Wagoneer family is positioned as a midsize SUV and is partly for that reason more suitable for the European market.

The “S” in the codename stands for speed, striking and sexy, as Jeep puts it. This all-electric premium SUV goes from 0 to 100 in just 3.5 seconds and has a range of almost 650 kilometers. With a redrawn front end, Jeep reinterprets the recognizable seven-element grille. The most striking design element is found at the rear, where the roof flows into a large spoiler. We can expect the car in early 2023.

Jeep Avenger 4xe

For the European market at least, Jeep has in store the Avenger 4xe, a compact SUV with an estimated range of about 400 kilometers. Unfortunately, Jeep is not yet giving more details about the battery capacity. What we do know is that the car will be built in Tychy, Poland, at the same plant where electric Alfa Romeos and Fiats are also built. The Avenger is on the STLA Small platform, a shared platform for EVs within the Stellantis group. Jeep positions the Avenger below the Renegade and is only available European market. The car will be presented at the Paris Motor Show in mid-October. It will be in the showroom in early 2023.

Jeep Recon 4xe

For the truly environmentally conscious adventurer, Jeep will soon offer the all-electric Recon 4xe. Including the so-called open air freedom, where the roof can be opened and windows and doors can be completely removed. A concept we also know from the Wrangler. The observant viewer will therefore see quite a few similarities between the Wrangler and the Recon. Jeep itself says that the Recon is inspired by the Wrangler and should offer the same off-road features, but fully electric. The model should become the embodiment of the transition from 4×4 to 4xe. We can expect the Recon 4xe in 2024, including in Europe.
