Volvo makes strides: the new Volvo ES90
A filled parking space
With a length of almost five meters and a wheelbase of 3.1 meters, the Volvo ES90 will soon be unmissable on the streets. The car looks basically like a sedan, but the sloping roofline and large tailgate make it a fastback, a touch Polestar 2. Also, the ES90 stands slightly higher on its legs, but that doesn’t make it a full-fledged SUV.

The design of the Volvo ES90 can be called elegant, with a continuous line across the body from front to rear. The streamlined body has a low drag coefficient of 0.25, which contributes to efficiency and driving range. That wheelbase also results in generous interior space. Luggage space ranges from 424 to 733 liters, depending on the configuration of the rear seats. There is also an additional storage space of 22 liters at the front for the charging cable.

New ‘exciting’ technology on board
The ES90 is the first Volvo to feature 800V technology, making it possible to fast charge up to 350 kW. In just ten minutes, this can add 300 kilometers of driving range. Talk about short pit stops.
Also, the on-board computer systems are next level. The ES90 is the first Volvo to be equipped with a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin configuration. It’s a mouthful, but this enables a computing power of 508 trillion operations per second. This advanced computing architecture manages functions such as efficient battery management, AI-based safety features and sensor data.
Speaking of safety, there is no lack of it in the ES90. Active safety systems are controlled by a sophisticated array of sensors, including a lidar, five radars, seven cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

Big car, big battery pack
The Volvo ES90 is offered with three different powertrains. The base variant is powered by a single electric motor on the rear axle. Power comes out to 245 kW (333 hp) and 480 Nm of torque, good for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. A battery pack of gross 92 kWh is used, allowing a range of 650 km (WLTP).
The all-wheel-drive Twin Motor variant has an electric motor on the rear axle of 200 kW, and one on the front axle of 130 kW. The combined power comes out to 330 kW (449 hp) and torque yields 670 Nm. The most powerful version, the Twin Motor Performance, features 280 kW on the rear axle and 220 kW on the front axle, good for a total output of 500 kW (680 hp) and 870 Nm of torque. This variant completes the sprint to 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds. As with other Volvo models, the top speed is electronically limited at 180 km/h to monitor safety.
The Twin Motor variants feature a larger 106 kWh battery pack (102 kWh usable) and support a payload of up to 350 kW. The estimated range according to the WLTP cycle is 700 kilometers for both all-wheel-drive versions.
Prices and availability Volvo ES90
The Volvo ES90 is immediately available for order in the Netherlands and Belgium. The entry-level version, the Single Motor Extended Range with 333 hp and a driving range of 650 kilometers, has a starting price of 69,995 euros. For the Twin Motor variant, which offers a driving range of 700 kilometers, prices start at 85,995 euros.
With the introduction of the ES90, Volvo is taking a solid step toward an all-electric future, while continuing to emphasize the brand’s core values of safety, innovation and Scandinavian design.
