Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25: only 20 units for the Netherlands
207 hp and 320 Nm
In 1998, the Polo first received those three iconic letters: GTI. Anno 2023, the Volkswagen Polo GTI is already 25 years old. Time for a party number. For propulsion, the Polo GTI Edition 25 relies on the powerful 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine, producing 152 kW/207 hp and 320 Nm of torque. With it, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. Other features include a specially tuned, 15-mm lowered sports suspension. The XDS electronic limited slip differential is also on hand.
Cosmetic modifications
Visually, too, the Polo GTI Edition 25 underlines its festive status. It combines classic GTI looks – including red brake calipers and trim strips, a honeycomb design in the radiator grille and chrome exhaust pipes – with numerous exclusive Polo GTI Edition 25 features. Examples include 18-inch “Adelaide” alloy wheels in high-gloss black, a black roof and black exterior mirrors, which together underline the sporty look.
Interior Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25
The interior comes standard with premium sports seats in perforated black and red leather with stitched GTI logos, plus high-gloss black trim with red GTI signature. Paired with a 20-centimeter (8-inch) large high-resolution screen, the Ready to Discover infotainment system ensures maximum connectivity.
The special nature of this limited edition is endorsed by the special “One of 2,500” logo on the door sill strips. In addition to the familiar GTI colors Pure White, Kings Red Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic, Smokey Grey Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is also available in the exclusive color Ascot Grey.
Equipment
Furthermore, the Polo GTI Edition 25 gets standard features including IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, Dynamic Light Assist and LED daytime running lights. A multi-function leather sport steering wheel with shift paddles and the ’25’ emblem plus numerous driving assistance systems normally found only in higher class vehicles are also included. The standard Travel Assist enables partially autonomous driving. Travel Assist can take over steering, braking and acceleration at speeds from 0 to even 210 km/h. In doing so, the technology relies on data from Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist, among others. The Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 25 is coming to the Netherlands in a limited edition of only twenty units.
25 years of Volkswagen Polo GTI: a retrospective
When it was launched in 1979, the GT variant of the very first Polo caused quite a stir. Yet it was not until 1998 that the third Polo generation first received the three iconic letters. Volkswagen limited production of the first Polo GTI to only 3,000 units and announced not long after that the model was sold out. The next GTI version appeared a few years later, in 2006. In the process, the 132 kW/180 hp Cup Edition – which was optically based on the racing cars in the Polo Cup – was a real treat for enthusiasts.
In 2010, the fifth generation of the Polo presented itself, with the turbocharged and supercharged 1.4-liter TSI engine immediately appealing to both existing and new GTI fans. Its successor was launched in 2014, equipped with, among other things, a brand new, 141 kW/192 hp TSI engine and a top speed of 236 km/h. The current, sixth-generation Polo continued the GTI tradition in 2021.
