VIDEO: Lando Norris pops over Silverstone with LEGO car
LEGO McLaren
What you see here is a LEGO creation made up of a whopping 342,817 LEGOTechnic bricks and elements.
The weight?
1,220 kg.
The car has fully functioning steering and an electric motor.
This is the first time LEGO has built a life-size, full-size car that can actually drive and, in this case, even complete a full circuit.
8,344 hours
Building this impressive replica was quite a job.
A team of 23 specialists from LEGO and McLaren worked intensively together on this project.
In total, they spent 8,344 hours playing with the bricks.
That includes the time they spent on design and engineering.
Silverstone
After the construction phase, the exciting moment arrived: the ultimate test at the Silverstone Circuit, the heart of British motor racing and a place full of rich history for McLaren.
Norris piloted the LEGO McLaren P1 over the 5.891 km long circuit without any problems.
Want your own McLaren P1 in your driveway at home, too?
You can, but in a slightly more modest size: a 1:8 scale model of the LEGO Technic McLaren P1 is now available.
In the video below, see how Lando drives the LEGO P1 through Silverstone:
