Video: Freight train with hundreds of cars on fire near Etten-Leur
Car delivery times
It is currently difficult to buy a new car. Ordering is not the problem, but delivery is. Delivery times for a new car are increasing. For some popular models, you may have to wait two to three years before it arrives at your doorstep. Almost every brand suffers from it, so you’ll just have to wait if you like a new pair of wheels on your doorstep.
Shortage of everything
What causes that, we probably don’t have to tell you anymore: shortage of chips, shortage of personnel, shortage of raw materials, shortage of transport ships and so on… What also doesn’t help: a car transport train that catches fire. Things went wrong at Etten-Leur around 1 p.m. today after the train of freight carrier DB Cargo broke the overhead line. The pipe then hit some cars, which caught fire as a result.
Hundreds of cars
On the train are several hundred brand-new passenger cars, of which fortunately only a few caught fire. Because the train is in the middle of a cornfield, the fire is extra difficult to extinguish. NS reports that no trains will run on the Roosendaal-Breda route until 6 p.m. for now. Local residents are advised to stay out of the smoke, turn off ventilation and close windows and doors.
In the videos below, you can see that train are rammed with cars and the clouds of smoke from the burning ones can be seen in the far surroundings. The fire department has since given the Signal Fire Master. So the damage seems to be limited.
