Unique car: Brooke Double R260 Cosworth

October 23, 2024

Only thirteen units of Brooke Double R260 Cosworth

The Brooke Double R260 Cosworth was developed by a small company in Devon, England. Very few units of the model were built. As far as is known, there were only thirteen. This red car is the only one in the Netherlands. Remarkable: although the steering wheel is on the left, the gear lever is also on the left. This may require some getting used to at first.

2.3-liter Cosworth four-cylinder

Under the hood houses a powerful 2.3-liter Cosworth four-cylinder based on a Ford Duratec. This engine delivers impressive performance: think 260 hp and 271 Nm of torque. That results in a 0-100 time of just 3.1 seconds. By the way, the Brooke Double R260 Cosworth weighs only 600 kilograms. That puts it in the same ballpark as a Caterham, some versions of which also feature this powertrain.

Tubular steel chassis

The placement of the engine in a tubular steel chassis in the rear makes for excellent weight distribution, but of course you have to know what you’re doing. Because ABS and ESP are something this Brooke should know nothing about. Wearing a helmet is also recommended, as a full windshield is glaringly absent. The adjustable pedal console allows drivers of different heights to ride in this car.

Quaife locking differential

Especially noteworthy is the shape of this Brooke, as it is reminiscent of the “cigar racers” of the ’50s and ’60s. Also noteworthy are the brakes, which are AP Racing brakes with four pistons per caliper. The 260 horsepower is released to the rear wheels via a Quaife limited slip differential. The Brooke Double R260’s suspension is based on race cars and features adjustable shock absorbers and rods.

Price tag

This particular example was built in 2008 and has driven only 9,556 km. Price tag: 37,800 euros. It is for sale at Brooks Classics in Utrecht.
