Triumph Bonneville for Elvis fans
Elvis’ introduction to Triumph Motorcycles happened in 1965. That was during a break from filming when he spent time with his closest friends, better known as the “Memphis Mafia,” at his villa in Bel Air. His friend Jerry Schilling had ordered a new Triumph T120. Elvis took it for a spin and was impressed. When he returned he told his manager Alan Fortis, “Order one for all the boys, but we have to have them by tonight!” And it succeeded.
Signature of Elvis Presley
This story prompted the release of the Triumph Bonneville T120 Elvis Presley Limited Edition, featuring a beautiful Carnival Red livery and full of fun gold details. These include gold lettering and Elvis Presley’s signature prominently displayed on the tank and sides. Or the subtle “Taking Care of Business in a Flash” emblem, which also adorned the necklace Elvis gave to the members of his Memphis Mafia.
Triump and charity
The story behind the Memphis Mafia is not what you think. The club was certainly not criminally minded, but rather put effort into good causes. The Memphis Mafia story inspired a one-of-a-kind “Elvis Presley” Triumph Bonneville with accompanying Gibson Les Paul Guitar. That motorcycle with guitar sold for $20,000 at the Amelia Island auction by Bonhams|Cars. Proceeds were donated to the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation, which continues Elvis’ generosity by supporting various charities.
Triump and Memphis Mafia
“It was incredible to see the customer response last year to the custom Bonneville we had created to raise money for charity. Our search for the Memphis Mafia’s Bonnevilles brought with it a delightful glimpse into the past,” said Triumph Chief Commercial Officer Paul Stroud. “With so much interest in the story, we are sure our fans of our brand are looking forward to this opportunity to acquire this Triumph as an ode to the greatest solo artist of all time.”
