Traffic fines 2025 more expensive: rates listed

September 25, 2024

Indexation of traffic fines 2025

Every year, traffic fines are indexed.
This is done through the adjustment of the rates in the Annex to the Administrative Enforcement of Traffic Fines Act (Wahv).
The rates are adjusted to compensate for monetary depreciation, to the development of the consumer price index, measured each year in the period from June to June (and as published by the Central Bureau of Statistics).
For traffic fines 2025, the indexation rate amounts to 3.2%.
With respect to this, this keeps the amount of Wahv fines relatively the same compared to the 2024 amounts.
Most general traffic offenses will become about 10 euros more expensive in 2025 and speeding offenses – depending on the speed – can be 15 euros more expensive.

Paying fine

The Central Judicial Collection Agency (CJIB) is in charge of collecting traffic fines under the Wahv.
This collection is very effective: 84% of those involved pay the fines on time.
Of course, there are also people who have difficulty paying their fine (on time).
If a traffic fine is not paid on time, the Wahv stipulates that the penalty is increased by fifty percent (Article 23, third paragraph, Wahv).
If the amount due is subsequently also not paid on time, this amount is increased by one hundred percent (Article 25, first paragraph, Wahv).

Administration fee

All amounts mentioned in this article on traffic fines 2025 do not include a 9 euro administrative fee.
That amount will remain the same in 2025.
