Toyota Corolla TS Hybrid 200 GR Sport (2024): some points of interest
So what else has been adjusted?
Toyota always listens carefully to feedback from the media, including our feedback.
Behind the scenes, update packages are then put together that can be sent to cars over-the-air.
This is how they get better over time.
Previously in the Toyota Corolla, for example, it was not possible to disable various driver assistance systems while driving.
Thus, if you forgot before departure, you were effectively “stuck with the bugs. That has now been resolved. The menu is also accessible while driving.
Lane assist and speed warning are now off in no time.
The infotainment system also now allows you to press “I agree” while the car is already moving.
Previously that was only possible in P mode, so you had to wait for the system to start up.
Now you can just drive off immediately and then press ‘I agree’.
Still nice that those little updates can make a car better and nicer, because there is less annoyance.
Note the wheel size of the Toyota Corolla
Nice, those fat wheels, but thanks to the flat tire, you do hear more rolling noise.
If you want a quieter car, choose smaller wheels with higher tire sidewalls.
Moreover, a car with a smaller wheel size is also more fuel-efficient.
With this test car, we achieved an average fuel consumption of 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers over a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers.
That is exceptionally decent, especially since you are also driving with almost 200 hp.
By the way, Toyota gives an average fuel consumption of 4.8 l/100 km in combination with 18-inch wheels.
So with a score of 5.1, we’re getting close.
Fine powertrain with CVT
The powertrain consists of a 1,987 cc four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a CVT and electric motor.
System output comes out to 144 kW (196 hp) with 190 Nm of torque, available between 4,400 and 5,200 rpm.
The Touring Sports’ top speed is 175 km/h and the 0-100 time is 7.7 seconds.
You read it right, not 200 horsepower in other words.
Toyota smuggles some here, calling the powertrain Hybrid 200.
In practice, it is 196 horsepower.
A small difference, of course, but just so you know.
Cheap this Toyota Corolla is not
The Toyota Corolla Touring Sports Hybrid 200 GR Sport Plus does not come cheap.
The starting price as of June 15 this year is 46,595 euros.
To that is then added the color combination Super Green Metallic with a black roof in the case of this test car.
That costs another 1,445 euros.
A panoramic sliding/tilting roof is omitted in this case.
For 1,395 euros, your car has that too.
The price then creeps nicely toward 50,000 euros.
Without that panoramic roof, you’re about 48,000 euros.
A lot of money, of course.
You can also order the Corolla Touring Sports Hybrid 140 GR Sport for 41,295 euros.
Saves five grand, but also about 60 horsepower.
That choice is up to you.
The stronger powertrain does have extra power reserve and that just drives much more pleasantly.
The 140 hp powertrain is a bit more economical, though.
Go for color!
Nice, all that black, white and gray.
But dare to choose a bright color.
Toyota supplies Juniper Blue metallic, Emotional Red and also the bright Super Green that you find on this test car.
It looks great and attracts a lot of attention.
Thanks to Super Green the GR details stand out even more.
I highly recommend this green.
This also stands out about the Toyota Corolla
- The GR Sport’s seats are great and offer nice support
- The car is roomier than you think, there is 581 to 1,606 liters of luggage space
- The car weighs 1,515 kilograms roadworthy and feels nice and nimble
- Braked, the car may tow 750 kilograms, which is not very impressive
- The on-board navigation system is sometimes a bit unclear with instructions, which is also partly due to the graphics.
Navigating via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto provides the solution, as Google Maps always works fine - The quality of the rear parking camera could really be much better, you can count the pixels now and the image is a bit cloudy even with clean lens
- Fine steering feel with nice feedback
- The interior is nicely finished, in the case of the GR Sport even with red stitching
- The seat heater works with switches, so you need to turn it off independently.
You have to choose, 103 kW (140 hp) or still 144 kW (196 hp), which would you take?
