This new Mercedes is the fastest charging station wagon with the greatest range

July 15, 2025

Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake

The CLA Shooting Brake is back – but this time the German station wagon is all-electric. At least, for now. Hybrids and gasoline versions will follow later. But the spotlight is now on the electric CLA Shooting Brake with EQ technology. That’s how Mercedes-Benz calls its latest EVs these days – “with EQ technology” – now that the brand stops using model names starting with EQ, such as EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, EQS, ETC, ETC…

How far will he get?

We already said it: this Shooting Brake has a long run. For now, two versions will appear: the CLA 250+ Shooting Brake and the CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake. Both have an 85 kWh battery, good for a range of 761 and 730 kilometers (WLTP) respectively. This currently makes it the estate car with the greatest electric range. The larger Audi A6 Avant e-tron comes to 720 kilometers, and the BMW i5 Touring remains below 600 kilometers.

fast charging

When it comes to charging, the CLA Shooting Brake also competes at the top. Fast charging is possible with a peak power of 320 kW. At Audi, the kW meter gets stuck at 270 kW, the BMW i5 can “only” handle 205 kW peak power. With the right charger, you can add up to 310 kilometers of additional driving range to the CLA Shooting Brake (with EQ technology) within 10 minutes.

Is it fast?

The CLA 250+ sprints to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. So the entry-level car is nice and smooth, but not a streamer. The CLA 350 4MATIC – with two electric motors and all-wheel drive – takes just 5 seconds. Both versions are electronically limited to 210 km/h.

Aesthetics with a plug

Mercedes itself calls the car an “estate for individualists.” We think it’s more of a cross between coupe, hatchback and station wagon. The nose is identical to that of the regular CLA, with an illuminated grille full of small stars. The rear end slopes elegantly toward a practical tailgate. The boot offers 450 liters (1,290 liters with the rear seats flat), plus another 101 liters in the frunk. So the frunk is nice and big, but the boot itself is not very spacious. Fortunately, surfboards or bicycles can just go on the roof – which can carry up to 75 kilograms. And for those who like to tow something bigger: the maximum towing weight goes up to 1,800 kilos. That’s neat, for an EV.

When will he be here?

The first electric CLA Shooting Brakes are expected in the Netherlands in mid-2026. Prefer a version with gasoline engine and hybrid technology? That will appear early next year already. About prices Mercedes is silent for now.
