This new electric Mercedes SUV achieves more than 700 kilometers of range
Mercedes-Benz GLC
Last week we reported that Mercedes is saying goodbye to the EQE and EQE SUV sooner than planned . That doesn’t mean the brand is throwing in the towel on electric driving. On the contrary. The new GLC is technically a lot more advanced than the EQE, which immediately explains why that model will soon be retired.

The electric GLC, which Mercedes itself calls “GLC with EQ technology,” stands on the new MB.EA platform. Thanks to its 800V architecture, it can charge at lightning speed: up to 330 kW, good for some 303 kilometers of additional driving in ten minutes. With a usable battery capacity of 94 kWh, the GLC gets as far as 713 kilometers according to WLTP.

Taller
The wheelbase grew to 2,972 millimeters, more than eight centimeters more than before. Rear passengers benefit from extra leg and headroom, while the trunk can swallow 570 liters of luggage. In the front there is a generous 128-liter frunk, more than enough for charging cables and loose items. The new GLC is hard to miss on the road: Mercedes seems to be taking over the torch from BMW as a lover of large grilles.

Drive
The first version is the GLC 400 4MATIC. Two electric motors together deliver 360 kW (483 hp). The motor on the rear axle is permanently active, while the front axle can be disconnected for less power consumption. A striking detail: at the rear is a two-speed transmission. This provides both more torque and efficient drive.

Driving comfort and technology
Under the skin, you’ll find a multi-link suspension. For those who want more comfort, there is AIRMATIC air suspension, complemented by rear-wheel steering up to 4.5 degrees. That reduces the turning radius and increases stability, according to the brand. For off-road use, there is a Terrain mode and the “transparent hood”: camera images that show what is happening right in front of the wheels. With a towing weight of 2.4 tons, it can also carry a caravan without a problem.

Interior full of screens and gadgets
Inside, the optional MBUX Hyperscreen especially draws attention: a 39.1-inch wide screen that runs on the new MB.OS operating system. Updates arrive wirelessly and the smart assistant adapts to your preferences. Those who value sustainability can opt for an officially certified vegan interior. Extra special is the dimmable panoramic roof, which makes 162 “stars” appear at night.
