More stolen motorcycles
A total of 1,694 motorcycles were reported stolen to police last year. This is a 13% increase from 2021, when there were 1,498 reports. These are only motorcycles with license plates. Track bikes and motocross and trial bikes are therefore not included in these figures.
Yamaha popular
Interestingly, motorcycles that are between one and five years old are picked on the most. Classic motorcycles 20 years or older are also in demand by the thieves’ guild. Yamaha captures the spot of the most stolen brand in 2022. The brand strikes a chord with 354 stolen units. The top five also includes BMW (247), Piaggio (223), Honda (201) and Suzuki (176). The two-wheelers most frequently stolen are motor scooters. In first place is Kymco, of which 1 in 45 is stolen. Piaggo ranks second with 1 in 59 and Gilera follows with 1 in 85. On average, 1 in 472 motorcycles is stolen. Of all stolen two-wheelers, only 22% are recovered.
