This is what the new registration certificate looks like
Credit card-sized registration certificate
The RDW first introduced the credit card-sized registration certificate in 2014.
Gert Jan Holland, division manager Registration & Information at the RDW, says: “This updated version has a different appearance, different security features, a different back side and a new contact chip. The safety features cannot all be seen or felt with the naked eye. For example, you need a UV lamp.”

The new registration certificate looks just a bit fresher and has a slightly different design.
Like the new driving license, the registration certificate is also produced by Thales.
Gert Jan Holland says: “‘The previous contract for the production of the license plate stopped after 10 years. Therefore, a new tender had to be issued. This tender was won by producer Thales.”
If you drive on the road, you must have your registration card with you. The police may ask for it.
