This is the Aston Martin DB12, James Bond would endorse it
New era for Aston Martin
The Aston Martin DB12 heralds a new era for the British sports car manufacturer. It is one of the first of the brand’s new generation of sports cars. In doing so, look not only at the technology, but also at the design of the model. Indeed, the design of the DB12 is also finding its way into other new types from Aston Martin.
4.0-liter V8 with two turbos
Under the powerfully designed hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline engine, good for an output of 680 hp and a whopping 800 Nm of torque. That torque is available between 2,750 and 6,000 rpm. The performance is impressive. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.6 seconds and the top speed is 325 km/h. Shifting is done with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends all the power to the rear wheels. There, an electronically controlled limited slip should ensure efficient power delivery to the wheels.
The wheels
The 21-inch wheels are wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires. This is striking. Indeed, Aston Martin is the first car brand to use the new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires. On the DB12, they have a size of 275/35 R21 103Y in the front and 315/30 R21 108Y in the rear. The DB12’s tires are marked with “AML” codes. This means they have a custom rubber compound tailored specifically to the capabilities of this “Super Tourer.
Sizeable dimensions
Small the Aston Martin DB12 is not. The sports coupe with 2+2 seating arrangement has a length of 4,725 mm, a width of 2,060 mm and a height of 1,295 mm. The wheelbase measures 2,805 mm. Yep, a weekend away is no problem either. In fact, the luggage space is 262 liters, room enough for some weekend bags. Thanks to a 78-liter fuel tank, covering longer distances should not be a problem, which is nice in a GT. The DB12’s weight comes out to 1,685 kilograms, with a weight distribution of 48 percent front and 52 percent rear.
Puik interior
Aston Martin put a lot of effort into the design, not only on the outside but also for the interior. The British are installing a completely new infotainment system with an almost retro look and feel. Handsomely done. As mentioned, James Bond would approve of anything.
Start of delivery of Aston Martin DB12
Delivery is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2023. A DB12 Volante is expected to complete the range later. Count on extra-fast versions of the DB12 as well.
