This is how clean rims get in the dishwasher (VIDEO)
Everything is dishwasher safe
Glass lampshades, plastic toys, the lid of your trash can. These are just three items that can go right into your dishwasher, according to Margriet, the well-known Dutch magazine (and website) for women. Cleverly, why not? But we question the suggestion we came across near the bottom of the top 10 list:
9. Your car’s rims: Rims of your car tires can get extremely dirty. Therefore, do not clean them yourself, but let the dishwasher do the work. It is wise not to add cutlery and plates though, there really is too much dirt on the rims alone for that.
Unwise
One might wonder if this is a good idea. Dishwasher detergent is pretty aggressive, we wouldn’t want to expose a beautiful set of rims to that ourselves. Sand, oils, brake dust and other nasty goo that a rim comes into contact with also seems to us to be harmful to a dishwasher. Besides, it doesn’t seem like a fresh idea to us. Surely it feels different, when you grab a “clean” plate from the dishwasher at breakfast in the morning….
Does it work?
Sensible or not, does it work at all? We haven’t tried it ourselves – and neither has the Margriet – but the YouTube channel Carhax has. The man behind the channel disassembled a front wheel of his Volkswagen, plopped off the tire and slid the rim into his dishwasher. As you can see in the video below, the result is not bad at all. But whether it is so wise….
