From DS 4 to DS N°4

Since its introduction in 2021, DS has been betting firmly on luxury as a differentiator with the DS 4. Competitors such as the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz A-Class are the target. The French hatchback has been renamed to match the rest of the new DS range, which also includes the larger DS N°8.

Not only is its name completely new, its appearance has also been given a major overhaul. The front of the DS N°4 has been completely redesigned. The grille is wider and black, containing an illuminated DS logo and small LED light bars. Notable detail: the daytime running lights now have a pulsing pattern, reminiscent of a heartbeat

At the rear, the design is slightly less drastic. What is new: 3D engraved taillights with less chrome trim, a black strip across the width and new DS typography. 20-inch alloys complete the look.

Electrified three times

The technical update is also anything but superficial. The DS N°4 now comes with three new electrified powertrains. The most important first: for the first time there is an all-electric variant. We list the powertrains:

• E-Tense (electric)
  An electric motor with 156 kW (213 hp) and 343 Nm of torque. Range up to 450 kilometers (WLTP), with fast charging up to 120 kW. The 58.3 kWh battery charges to 80% in half an hour.

• Plug-in hybrid (PHEV)
  A system output of 165 kW (225 hp). The 14.6 kWh battery provides up to 81 kilometers of electric range (WLTP).

• Mild hybrid (Hybrid)
  A 1.2-liter gasoline engine paired with an electric motor, together good for 106 kW (145 hp). In city traffic, you can drive electrically up to 50% of the time.

Luxury and technology  

Inside, DS remains true to its roots: refined, artisanal and original. There are fine materials, such as nappa leather, canvas, alcantara, wooden details and pearl stitching. DS clearly sets the bar higher than the German competition, which increasingly use hard plastics in their interiors. Here the feeling of true luxury still prevails.

The infotainment system features a 10-inch touchscreen and there is a layered 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a sort of 3D effect. DS introduces ChatGPT as a smart assistant: useful for controlling functions or just checking the weather. For music lovers, there is an audio system with 14 speakers and 690 watts.

How much luggage will fit inside?

The amount of luggage space varies by powertrain. The mild hybrid version offers the most: 430 liters. The plug-in hybrid has to make do with 390 liters and the all-electric DS N°4 E-Tense comes out at 360 liters.

Delivery and prices

The updated DS N°4 will be at Dutch dealers starting in October. Prices will be announced in June. In the meantime, you can get acquainted via the video below:
