This costs the first and only hybrid city car you can buy
First hybrid in the A-segment
Toyota has significantly refreshed its smallest model. The new Aygo X is more powerful, more fuel-efficient and now features true hybrid technology. This makes it officially the first full hybrid in the A-segment. Where city cars normally settle for a simple gasoline engine, the Aygo X gets the same smart drive we know from larger Toyotas.

What does the Toyota X cost?
That other brands are not taking this step makes sense: hybrid technology quickly makes small cars too expensive. But Toyota can afford it thanks to its enormous economy of scale. The brand builds millions of hybrid systems a year, easily recouping development and production costs. As a result, the price of the new Aygo X is quite reasonable: starting at 23,750 euros, or 319 euros per month through Toyota Private Lease.
Pretty powerful
Granted, that’s still hefty money for a city car. But comparable models without hybrid technology are hardly cheaper. A Suzuki Swift with 82 hp already costs over 22 grand, while the Aygo X with 85 kW (116 hp) is much more powerful. The sprint to 100 km/h takes 9.2 seconds and consumption is between 3.7 and 3.9 liters per 100 km.

Four flavors
The Aygo X comes in four trims. The ‘play’ is the entry-level model, but already quite complete with climate control, a 9-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The ‘pulse’ adds bi-tone paint, LED lighting and a wireless phone charger. Those who want more luxury choose the ‘envy,’ with seat heating, a larger screen and even air purification in the interior. The top model is the GR SPORT – yes, really – with sports suspension, modified power steering and 18-inch rims. The hood and grille are finished in black, and inside you’ll find GR logos and sport seats.

Low emissions
Toyota says the Aygo X Hybrid has the lowest CO₂ emissions of any non-rechargeable car: just 85 g/km. And as with any Toyota, you get up to 10 years or 200,000 kilometers of warranty, as long as you have maintenance done at the Toyota dealer. The first examples are expected in the Netherlands in early December. In the video below, we tell you more about the hybrid Aygo X:
